The coloring helped a bit, taking a little away from its 'messy' feel.
Not your best work, but I guarantee more practice with this style will definitely improve future pieces. I think you need to work on your body-proportion (legs, mostly, but arms and torso as well) and definitely the excessive cross-hatching, which is the root cause of the messiness I mentioned in the beginning of this post. I like that your trying a more realistically dimensional style of drawing -- just don't stop drawing the cartoony side; you're awesome at it. -------------------- I'm too legit. I'm working on a picture of Clarrissa right now or she'll strangle me. I haven't added anything here in a while so here's some nexus artz I've done recently OF MYSELF OF COURSE. I need a new avatar every week I swear:

Anyone with eyes can tell that the Nexus graphics are very anime-esque. So, I think people tend to draw their characters that way simply because it's true to form. However, I really like this picture and think you should explore this style some more. finished Nobu, working on Clarrissa. I have a few others I want to do. Sometimes I take pictures of you people when I see an outfit I like so you never know! I have a really cool thing of Kikoura I wanna do, but it's like WAY big and crazy
