I haven't played Nexus in Years, I do however check Nexus Atlas on occasion to see if anyone has breathed any life into this dying game. (One I feel still has so much potential but is just utterly mismanaged)

Can anyone but Vivi give me their opinion on the new servers? (Sorry Vini no offense, I just feel like when it comes to Nexus you're like a boyfriend that thinks his girlfriend doesnt poop and smarts smell like strawberry gas)

Are they noticeably faster?

Is PK going to be effected by the change?

I ran around a bit last night -- didn't notice anything being 'faster'; it's possible there are less lag spikes, but I haven't really played enough yet since the move nor have I gone to a PK event.

Because it was made to run on old computers and old internet, not new computers/servers/connections. The lag and spikes are an issue with the coding not the network.

LOL
My wife doesn't poop or fart!

Now seriously, I think most of us won't really notice any differences from the old server to this one. I for one didn't notice any, but mostly because I never really had much lag spikes back then.

I think the most important thing of hearing about the change isn't really about what we will perceive as improvement in gameplay itself, but the fact that KRU, has been investing a lot of time and work in nexus lately. If they bothered to do this amount of work for Nexus makes me feel they still have great plans for the game and the amount of events and updates we're having shows they're in the right path.

It's like putting lipstick on a pig. Who knows, they might not have even migrated to any new servers. And posting as Wony on Comm? As if he hasn't been here all these years?

Sounds like a bunch of snake oil to me. Still the same old typical KRU, where they don't share any information with their customers until the moment it goes live.

KRU did move to a new host (from AboveNet to Amazon Web Services.) Despite the fact that moving to AWS is an upgrade (or should be, depending on the instance they chose,) there shouldn't be any noticeable differences in-game. Nexus and Dark Ages actually create artificial lag from within the server software due to the fact that packets are not sent to clients instantly, but rather queued up and pushed out every second or so. As for why they decided to "upgrade to more powerful servers" then? My theory is that their contract with AboveNet was coming to a close and they decided to go with someone cheaper rather than renew.

Not sure why they moved their servers to north west coast instead of something more centralized so their players could get better overall latency.

My ping to Nexus went up 20ms after the move.
