Hell yes nexus needs to go free to play. Seriously the only reason some of us actually register is because we played this game when we were young. We made a youthful connection to it which causes us to register from time to time. Ask yourself this: if you never played Nexus before and found a youtube video or just an MMORPG web article about Nexus, would you consider paying 10 dollars a month for it? I mean look at it from the outside in, the graphics, the scores given on most MMO sites, would you pay 10 dollars a month for it? NO! That is why the population is falling. That is why there are no new players. People just cannot justify spending money on this game.

The only player base Nexus will ever have is us. The game we played back in 1998-2005 is gone. The game we made a youthful connection to is there but just feels empty and dead. WE are the only ones that will ever pay for NexusTk, no one else will.

Sorry Kru... but the game needs to go free to play.

Now... if the same question was asked again (would you give nexus a shot) only this time it's free to play... would you? I bet 8/10 people would download and try it. Would those people stay and keep playing, that's up to Kru and how they build the game up once it goes free to play.

Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?

I used to be opposed to Free to Play because I thought it would hurt the community, that we'd be overrun by idiots, that PC subpaths and Clans would die, etc... But the community, the paths and the Clans are already dead or dying. The game needs a jumpstart in the form of new players. This isn't so much about the survival of the game--I'd be one of those fools subscribing til they shut down regardless--but about whether the game is worth survival. So please, KRU, go free to play. Maybe make a premium subscription with some perks, or just add more useful items to the item shop, but go free to play.

In my opinion the item shop should only have items that don't have a major advantage in the game. It feels like the integrity of the game would completely disappear if people can just buy Sa san through the company.

If they added better outfits, accessories, scrolls, and even a special (cosmetic) treat for people who pay a premium price (like Laren suggestion) it would be fantastic.

mug used to say that Nexus would eventually become free to play if the item shop was a success. I'm fairly sure it is, if for no other reason than Muses feed on the crap.

Kruna has no affect what so ever on my game play. People do sometimes though, for better or worse. I got hooked on it in Beta when it was free to play (probably wouldn't have happened if it wasn't). However when the game moved out of beta and into TK3, I did vote for pay to play instead of advertisements. I'm not sure if it would be better or worse or even make a difference at all.

Maybe they could try a month or two free play and see what happens and adjust from there? Might even be cool to e-mail out to people that their already existing players are free to play for a month or two instead of e-mailing out to people that their already existing characters are about to be deleted forever if they don't pay a fee (like they did recently)? lol.... no offense ;P but I really wish some of those people weren't gone forever >.<

KRU has shot themselves in the foot time and time again. F2P may spark some new players, but with the recent purge I feel like it really limits the amount of people who would come back. I'd come back to see old faces, but considering most of those old faces are gone -- not much reason.

To Loxie, I don't think they'd make enough money if the item shop were only cosmetic. If they sell experience and/or crafting boosts, though, and maybe some item boxes with a chance of getting useful items, they'd be able to make up the loss from subscriptions if they got a few thousand new players. To FT and Interstate, as much I'd like to see old players come back, I don't see it happening. I'm more concerned with making the game more populous in general than with getting back the old population, many of whom have simply grown out of Nexus. And if KRU gets more population and more money, they might be willing to do more for the game, which might make the game better and might make older players come back.

I should also note that I don't know that F2P is the only solution, and it may not be enough alone. Tangun being fixed might help on its own, and it will probably be necessary even with F2P, but a lot of the problems with Tangun would be helped by having more people to play with.

What is fundamentally wrong with the game has always been wrong. People have simply wised up, quit the game, and moved on. I think that free to play would last for a short while. When/if old players returned because of it, and realize that the only thing that changed was the FTP, they would move on again.

There are simply too many things wrong with the game. The biggest one being that the players have too much control over other players. Archons are a huge problem. They allow a player to hide behind a name and do as they wish. Do you honestly think that PlayerX, who is biased about this or that, leaves those biased views behind when they log onto ArchonX? I highly doubt it. We've seen it happen with our very own eyes for years! That's what is wrong with Nexus. Players have too much control over how another player gets to play. It's ridiculous that someone in a power position gets to say whether PlayerX gets to join their clan/subpath/club/whatever. It does affect player's gameplay.

So, I guess what I'm trying to get at is that whether or not the game ever becomes free to play, I don't think that it would help much with the activity. People would still quit the game. I think KRU knows that and that's why they will never make the game FTP. Right now they have dozens of dedicated players who shell out money to play for a decorative chat room.

Laren - I'm sure they would make plenty, and if they didn't they could add major items.

Purges - People can unpurge for $30 a character.

The fact the game is a subscription game isn't the problem.

The problem is the game is horribly imbalanced, terribly boring, and the unique elements of the game (politics) are controlled by so few hands that it makes anything with potential turn into a stale fest of boredom.

I started playing NexusTK when it was first released as a beta game. I thought it was garbage at first until I found out it was an MMO and not just a game for multi-player.
I loved the political aspect of the game and it was simple enough to pick up but the complexities of PvP in beta made it fun as hell.

I stuck around after it went pay to play as a reset character who stuck it out as a level 10 until my parents finally caved (and then I got power leeched by Grazette). It was fun climbing the ladders, meeting new people and exploring new places.

What the game lacks now are the constant updates and changes which made it unique. Nexus isn't like other MMOs where the the grind of better gear is the focus.
When MANY players had more control over events and major shifts in the community, the game was interesting. When I left you were at the mercy of a [Content removed]ing retard (Mug) and his band of yes-men.

Unless the overhaul the game to be hands off like they're doing now (make it more community focused through guild work and 'raiding'), the game is just going to keep going down hill.
If they want to continue the game as it is, then KRU needs to do a lot more work constantly adding new places, equipment etc.

There's no community, and what's left of it doesn't even speak English.

Play a real game and let this one just die. It's a shadow of what it was and thinking about it makes me nostalgic for the great days (even when people tried to make my game life a living hell).

I know there are plenty of high stat rogues, but the fact that rogues are so grossly underpowered next to warriors really kills the game Sam San+ for me. That coupled with the 1-2s delay lag, lack of events and content updates, etc have ruined NexusTK for me. If I had known 6-7 years ago that to progress my character, I had to beg warriors just to lay sleep traps for them, I would have either not played or rolled a warrior.

Also, the end game meta game really just doesn't even make sense anymore. If you break down all the spells a mage does versus a rogue, the only reason to bring a mage is for "ones that got away". Rogue can cycle and kill way more than any mage, yet the meta game seems to favor parking 3 mages behind a wall with 2 of them generally going afk.

But to be on topic, going free to play won't solve the issues. It's sort of the same thing as SWTOR. You could make the game f2p and invite people in, but if you don't fix what caused people to leave in the first place, you are just setting yourself up for failure. And kru knows this, and this is most likely why they won't go free.

Well I suppose I don't think the game is fundamentally broken the way some here do. I just think that not enough people try it or keep playing to keep the population stable. Most people who play started years ago, many more than a decade ago, and that population is dwindling. If WoW's only subscriber base were the people who started playing it in 2004 and 2005, it would have shrunk a lot by now too. People don't necessarily quit because a game is bad, they just move on.

Some changes do need to be made. Some of those changes would come naturally from a larger population, such as having more hands involved like Conro mentioned. Others would hopefully be easier to address if KRU were more successful. (Not that they necessarily deserve to be.) Hunting balance and so on, I'm not really one to comment on. My enjoyment from the game has always derived from the people in the game and what they could accomplish together, so my main concern is having more people involved.

There are fundamentals of the game that are totally broken, but as you mentioned, you've really only ever utilized one aspect of the game while most others spend some time with hunting/pvp, etc.

The game is absolutely terrible right now. Clans are at low numbers, as are many subpaths. Regardless of how many are registered to paths and clans, how many people are actually active?

Carnages are an absolute joke at this point. There's a huge issue with host attendance, but even more so an issue with hosts being properly trained. This all snow balls and pisses off the community, then the hosts blame the community for being mean. It's just back and forth constantly. KRU has not done a single thing for the carnage hosts (not the department) for as long as I can remember, and I don't blame some of the hosts for getting fed up with the community's crap. At the same time, I don't think people should volunteer for host if they can't take criticism.

The participation in carnage events is just terrible. One indo mage shows up, or a single sa/top poet shows up, and the match is ruined. I quit going to PK events because there is hardly ever balanced teams. You either get put on the strong team, or the weak one, simply because there are not enough participants.

I won't go in to my thoughts on how the carnage department is being managed, I think that's obvious enough, I'm just disappointed that nobody will step in and do anything about it. As other's mentioned, far too much power by so few, and they all seem to look through rose colored glasses.

There are so many ideas that KRU could run with on a F2P model. It wouldn't even require much work (have I caught your attention yet KRU?). Who knows, maybe Nexus is part of some Truman Show like experiment to see how long it can last before people finally get fed up. At this point though, the operating costs couldn't have changed much over the years, and it's not like the game requires much.

Another incentive with f2p would be that these volunteers aren't paying to spend their efforts on the game. It would be likely that people might feel less like they're paying to work part time for a game and more like it's a fun hobby.

This game requires much more than becoming free to play. There are so many parts of it that are broken.

The best thing KRU could probably do is reboot the entire game and make some much needed changes in the process while also making it free to play. There is no point starting now when you have people who have gigantic stats or who stuck around long enough to have iron grips on their positions. There are barely any new players and none of them can find hunts. Why would they stick around when the best thing they can ever do for a long time is solo in crappy, boring caves? Spider cave used to be cool in 1999, before WoW came out and had you feeling like an epic badass at level 15 with some of their quests and dungeons. On top of that, you get stuck in an absolutely useless newbie zone for a really long time.

I mean really, why would someone, as a new player, go to this game that is supposed to be set in Ancient Korea, walk into the starting zone, see maps that look like absolute crap, be cut off from the rest of the game for hours if not days depending on their playing schedule, and walk around killing stupid animals by swinging a crappy wooden stick? Worse is if they realize that this is essentially the hunting aspect of the game for the rest of the time they will be playing. What incentive is there to pay $10 a month for that? It is so much easier and better to go to WoW, EQ2, SWTOR, or whatever other new MMOs are out now.

And let's not pretend like people haven't heard of Nexus. Most MMO players are constantly looking for other games. In the decade and a half of Nexus existing, I'm sure a ton of people have checked it out and left when they realized what a piece of crap the game was, and that all probably happened 8+ years ago.

I'm sure lots of people would be upset for 'losing' so much of the effort they put into their characters, but I don't really see any other way to truly fix the game without resetting everyone. Hunting is a huge issue, there are people with massive stats causing insane balancing issues right now. The entire system needs to be changed. Maybe not the core mechanics of swinging a sword, of course, but how you hunt, the spells you have, how groups work together, and how fast you can advance are all issues that seriously need to be adjusted.

There is definitely a market for Nexus in the free to play arena. Look at the success of games with same-or-crappier graphics/gameplay mechanics. Right now though, the problem is the game is so poorly designed by too many crappy GMs and archons, the player base has contracted way too much making the game feel like a ghost town considering the over-expansion done in the past (there were too many clans even when the game was at its peak, and there are way too many useless areas of the game that are never visited except rarely for a quest here or there), and there is really no good way to advance unless you have played the game before and have friends willing to help you out, or you buy leeching services or a character on the black market. It won't matter if you make it free to play as it is now, Nexus isn't good enough to play as your MMO if you are a new player for the massive majority of people who try it out. And it also isn't good enough to play for all the people who have played it, as you can see they all left after getting fed up.

This game sucks now, plain and simple. Subpaths, clans, carnages, hunting, events... all of it is a massive joke at this point, and it has been for a few years now. It's a shame that the company who runs it doesn't really care to turn things around and try to inject new life into it, but then again, what else is new? When has KRU (and previously all the same people when it was Nexon USA) ever tried to grow the game besides a free CD in a gaming magazine years ago? When have they ever admitted that the game was fundamentally broken? When have they done anything, ever, to show they actually appreciate their customers? So why would anyone keep playing with the idea that things might get better or ever change?

If you can play the game and be happy with it as it is, good for you, keep doing what makes you happy. But I really don't understand why anyone even bothers trying to bring up suggestions as if they might be taken seriously by KRU any longer.

The game need more players than anything other changes. People play free games that are much worse than Nexus.

i'm with everclear on this one..game sucks and its broken.kru wont do anything about it, their version of caring about their customers is a marketing ploy "free kruna" they give you a crappy amount so youll either save it and wait until you have enough or buy a cupon and buy stuff so you can use their tiny "bonus." Kru is more worried about their iphone games..crappy events, recycled junk, even hunting past sa san is stupi unless you are in some hunting clicque sucking up to some powernerd
Check out Robosmasher, that had to be the largest failure launch of a game ever! kru is holding on because of their "meat & potatoes games" nexus, darkages & shattered galaxy and ALL of them have dwindling numbers, hell when will mr lee be running kru out of his house? why bother with an office, its not like kru has ANY employees..jokes on the players paying..so far 3 private servers have managed to have a BETTER GAME then nexus, which costs $10/month figure THAT one out..!

To be honest, I do not think there is TOO MUCH wrong with the game aside from player numbers.

As far as private servers having a better game, this is simply attached to more players as well.
If it weren't for the massive amounts of people, Nexia would absolutely BLOW. NOTHING about Nexia is better than Nexus aside from player numbers. Now that that's been said...

I do believe free to play will help the game. Most of us, as has been said before, started between 1998-2005. Most of us at that time were children, or teenagers. I started in 2000, I was 13. We need to attract a YOUNG crowd (sorry people who think we should make profanity legal), and to do that we NEED to make this game F2P.

I've been trying to get my girlfriend's nephews (15 and 12) to play Nexus, and they both like what they've seen from me. They want to play, they actually don't mind the graphics as they tend to gravitate towards older games anyway, but they don't have the cash. Activating more younger players, AKA more players in general, will incite more of the older people to come back. Not to mention that those younger players will eventually become older players willing to pay their share in kruna.

In order for F2P to work, Kruna will HAVE to have some great incentive. Sorry to whoever said that Kruna shouldn't give players advantages, but you can't make money off selling new clothes each week. I would say adding 2x exp gems and past event items as Kruna should solve the problems with the loss of payment from subscriptions.

Now, one might say "If you offer a 2x exp Kruna item then people will just be WAYYYY tooo buff! Nobody will be able to catch up without those items!!!111!!one!" While this may be true, with the addition of new players, more buff people won't matter as long as there are also new WEAK people. Someone will always be bigger than you, but the problem now is that not enough people are SMALLER. My mage is almost Sa stats, a feet that at one point was ludacris.. now I get suwaned by newbs born less than a year ago! However, if there was an influx of many new people, that would add to the amount of people my stats or LOWER. This would add to the fun in the game, which from my perspective comes mainly from PK.

LOL, imamage you are so right nexus totally rocks with its "player run subpaths" jumping through hoops for a 16 year old emo kid waiting 4 months to join a path...

oh yeah $10 a month too? hahahaha k.. its not just player numbers, these other games have game makers which actually CARE about the game, updates, etc.. when has scott lee replied to an email about concerns? NEVER. but he'll gladly take your $10! then he'll ban your character for telling the truth on a forum 8)

cant change a nexus fanboys mind, wonder what will happen when you wake up one morning/afternoon to log onto nexus, and it's offline... what THEN?
