I was a 13-14 year old 8th grader in 1999. I liked going over to my friend's house because he had a good computer and internet connection on which we could take turns playing Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance. Waking up on his upper bunk bed one morning, I found him already busy playing this crappy-looking 2d game with cartoon characters, but then I realized they were talking like real people chatting online. He explained that they were real people, and in the game you learned spells to hunt monsters. I was sold.
Now I'm 28 and have been living on and off in Beijing for 5 years after studying Chinese and Chinese literature in college (an interest inspired by Nexus). Spent the previous 3 years doing video game localization, but just started a new job in October doing international PR for a Chinese tech company, so looks like it's gonna be another few years out here at least. Haven't played Nexus seriously since 2004, though I've traveled through in various forms a number of times since then.

Just came back to look at the forums after years of being away.
I started as a 17 year old ISP tech support kiddo in Las Vegas. Loved the game back then.
Now I'm 32, married with a 3 year old daughter, have bachelors and masters degrees in computer science (focus on software engineering), and work as an engineer in the "big data" industry. My company has the largest database of personally identifiable information in the world (we're the database that knows what you search for, who you call, etc). Bought my home a couple of years ago, have worked incredibly hard and things have paid off.
Looking to possibly get back in to Nexus, but every time I connect, I don't know anybody I used to (All of you up above me in this thread, you know who you are).
EDIT: Whoa, just saw my profile pic, which was when I was 25. Blast from the past.

If you're interesting getting back into Nexus, you should look at trying to have your account restored if it's been purged. If you need any help doing that, just send me a PM.

QUOTE (newsox @ Mar 11 2014, 05:24 PM) i was 12, now I'm 28 and I still read these freaking forums!!!
i expected more humble brags and less self deprecation.. you have failed me nexus.
I have an education and a job. would like to get more education but job (60+ hours a week) exhausts me too much to do anything but veg out after work. Can't imagine having kids, how do you who have them do it. Not easily... But still wouldn't trade having a kid for the world.

THEN: I was a 16 year old high school dropout, living with my mother in the Middle of No Where, Oregon waiting to turn 17 so I could enlist in the Army. I stumbled into NexusTK when someone in the RPG Maker '95 community told me he wanted to make a game like it with RPG Maker, so I tried it out to see what it was like. And got (as most people know) super, hooked on the game. NOW: I'm the 31 year old CEO and founder of an internet television network startup. We have a large anime publisher among our clients, handling their assets on YouTube. We've also developed an hourly scheduling system for YouTube videos, with a brand new feature that transforms a website into an authentic TV Guide; I personally designed the system. I'm in the process of moving the company from Austin, TX to Los Angeles, CA. (Well, there's a hell of a lot of things I've been up to and through between "then" and "now" but no one probably cares )Note: Also just realized I have one of the highest post counts on this forum. Amazing how much of my life I've spent talking about this game.

Pretty sure most of it is you stroking your own ego. Just like that comment. THEN... It was 1998/99 and I stumbled upon an article about TK, the Shattering, and DarkChild. GLSGareth's stories were featured, and I was instantly hooked. NOW... Don't play anymore, but still have many friends from there. Pretty much just work and attend school.

Seems like the sort of thing you'd want to edit.

I've been waiting for a thread like this to pop up lol. A friend of my brother encouraged my brother and I to do the trial. I ended up sticking past the trial and played for about 7-8 years. I don't really remember how old I was, but just gonna throw out the age of 13-14, so I was in middle school at the time doing things typical middle schoolers do. 25 now (so glad I still feel like a child to most of you who are 30+, bahah), I visit Nexus maybe once or twice a year -- usually around Santa Mhul just to see what goodies I can get and talk with the remainder of people still playing. Graduated college ~3 years ago, moved across the country to the east coast (gross I know) to attend a masters physician associate/assistant program. Currently loving my life, but I basically am in class for 6 hours a day and then study until I sleep and repeat it. Try to incorporate gaming for at least an hour a day though to retain my sanity.
