How many ambers does it take to get to master and when do you start breaking even from sales if say you buy them at 30k per hundred

It's a secret to everybody.

There used to be complete crafting lists on nexus charts and on the in-game NexusTK poet's board.

Calhon's site www.nexuscharts.com has crafting charts, but it's not entirely that accurate.. just kind of a general guideline as it can be different depending on your path (and sometimes even subpaths - certain subpaths are rumoured to get crafting bonus' in certain areas).

Skill Information

That has the latest verified information that I can find. I may put a note with Coolboyman's information showing his levels using successful attempts.

This Information is probably wrong, recently there was a notable decrease in success on most crafts. If you have a chart of successes needed it would still be correct, but if your chart is gems cut it is currently way off.

certain subpaths are rumoured to get crafting bonus' in certain areas).

When crafting was introduced, the crafting bonuses and penalties were listed on one of the in-game boards. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of that post tucked away. At that time, I specialized my chars in the craft that had the best bonus for the path: Warrior - metalwork; Poet - clothworkng; Rogue - gemcutting. (My mage went to woodworking, but Lok shifted to carpentry after losing Tailoring skills in a bug.) I vaguely remember that Geomancers and Druids had bonuses to woodcutting.

Charts will only give you a rough estimate of the supplies needed. Advancement is based on the number of successes, not the quantity of materials used. So if I tell you that Lok used approximately 15K wood to get to Master Carpenter, the amount your character would use could vary by as much as 5K, depending on path/subpath, crafting styles, items crafted, etc.

As for the original question of "When do you break even from sales", my answer is - I don't on darks. My rogue is a Champion gemcutter and cuts mostly dark amber. She rarely goes over 90K coins per 100 darks. On average, I'd say she does about 85K per 100 darks. She hasn't hit the stack of yellow and white amber yet, so I can't give any figures on that.

Of course, we always make a profit on crafting because we don't buy anything. We've got a steady supply of dark amber, yellow amber, wool and ore just from the things we enjoy doing.

I think geomancers had a bonus in gemcutting and poets in carpentry.

But it was a long time ago.
