What is the best gathering profession these days for making money, gemcutting?

Posted by: AllyGator Feb 2 2010, 05:48 PM

Gemcutting isn't gathering. Gathering ambers is only good if you are a warrior. If you have nothing better to do and watch a lot of TV, maybe wood cutting? Wooling sucks because there aren't enough sheep. Mining isn't efficient. Wool sells for the most with ambers running second.

Unless you're a Ee+ warrior you can't really amber hunt that great (unless rab2 warr biggrin.gif) so I would imagine wooling to be worth it. Some people use 2 accounts in windowed mode, play 1 and autoswing woodcut on the 2nd... pretty sure its legal too, since they're at the keyboard and watching. but yeah, id go with wooling - they need to add more places to wool or up the spawn rate, because its pretty slow unless you're the only one.

rab2 warrior + 1-2 amber bags = easy to get/do and lots of ambers (1 bag holds 5 stacks of 1 type of amber + you can hold another stack in your inventory)

Auto-swing is legal as long as you are actually at your keyboard.

What they need to do is make crafting useful and profitable. Allow smiths to forge more than just 3 semi-useful blades that less than 10 in the game can actually make, for instance.
Jeweling was a step in the right direction, jewels can create useful items. Why not allow the other crafts to do the same? I'm sure it'll help stabilize the economy too.

Wish food prepare / chef was actually useful too..

I have just a few adjustments.. =P

Gathering Ambers is only good if you are an Ee+ warrior/Maxed rab2 warrior or even better yet - a Vortex 3 poet..!

To answer the question though... I enjoy woodcutting the most. You don't have to be super lucky to "get the good room *cough* Lobsters *cough*...
Nor do you really need to worry about spells, durability of equipment, health, mana, investing in the gear necessary to make ambering worth it, etc....

You basically just zone out and watch TV or a movie and glance at the computer screen once every few moments to see if you need a new axe or need to move to the next tree. =p

Mining is effective, just get an azerty keyboard. You'll find < between [shift] and w as a basic key, that way you have your other hand free to use the arrow keys. The only difference with woodcutting is you need to pay attention and actually do something.

The most effective way to make money in my experience is by wooling.

wool = 25 per stack
wool bag = 5 stacks per bag

and theres only like 2 places to 'farm' (unless you count places you need a group to hunt)
nagnang woodlands or wilderness

Boiled fish used to be awsome... until everyone found out, everyone fished... fished up flameblades... people who didn't complained, and got the price reduced from 5000 a stack to 500 from the abundance of fishing and such....
