QUOTE (darkmaverick @ Sep 18 2016, 11:27 PM) *
I seem to recall a certain someone arguing in the past that just because Merchants had Engrave shouldn't justify Merchants not having the ability to hunt.

I think that person may have been you, and the reverse of that argument ought to also be true.

The cost of Engrave is quite ridiculous and deep down you have to know that.

The work it takes to become a Merchant Guide is largely subjective. For some people they have to move heaven and earth; for others they need only be dating the correct person IRL. With the low player population I would not be surprised if they take just about anyone they can get, though I suppose with subpath group-think tendency toward elitism they probably have convinced themselves otherwise.

It may fit the roleplay but designing a system so that you can make up to a million gold coins for 5 minutes of "work" is really stretching the roleplay argument.

Whatever.

"We make so much money we just give it away because at a certain point money becomes meaningless" is what that really sounds like.

I don't think inflation is a compelling argument considering inflated wealth values does not necessarily impact newer players whose gold generating ability is still limited by things like amber crafting, and whose values and rate of acquisition haven't changed in over a decade. Meaning that to new players 500K is quite alot of money.....but on the other hand, since "new players" is more of a hypothetical than a definite I don't see the point in arguing the case.

Oh boy, it's been so long since I've done this with you, Captain Strawman. Anyway,

1. Right, and I still would argue that it doesn't justify that Merchants don't have the ability to hunt. The reverse of that argument ought NOT to be true when I said other subpaths should have spells that enable other paths to make money too, and you knew I said that at the end before you replied. Rather than take away, I'd rather see things added.

2. I do not believe the cost of Engrave is ridiculous; I think it is very fair. Engraves are/were supposed to be special. You value things when you have to work to pay for them and spend a decent amount of cash. I would in fact argue that the cost of engraves might be too low considering inflation, but I don't know the economy of Nexus right now whatsoever. This is all subjective though so not much point in going further here.

3. Regardless of corruption or the people who don't/didn't work, my point still stands that I think it is a fair ability in return for the work many guides have put in. I did not say it was about the "5 minutes work" of casting the spell, I said it was a reward for all the work a guide should be doing. So if you agree with me it fits the roleplay, then I don't see the issue.

4. You can take what I said however you like and try to appeal to emotion, but it doesn't change the fact that guides have (had?) donated a portion of earnings to the path as a whole for a lot of the path's history, and that money DOES go down to the walkers and back into the community through various means. (Hrm... some goes to the guide, some to the path, some to the community... it's almost as if it is drawn from this crazy idea that Merchants have 3 duties as part of their roleplay.)

5. As you said, new players are hypothetical. Therefore I would argue that inflation is a compelling argument since engraves are almost certainly overwhelmingly purchased by players for whom 500k is not a lot of money.

Hey come on, it's totally roleplaying for a path to have a special unique ability nobody else has and that can make the subpath member incredibly wealthy for doing virtually nothing.

Adding a couple squiggly lines to the name of an item should definitely cost 500,000 gold coins.

Oh come on, don't be jelly.

I'll agree that there have been many guides over time who have done virtually nothing but collect engrave income, and quite frankly those people suck.

While casting the spell is easy enough, that doesn't take into account a few other things:

1) Merchants as a path have (had?) been screwed for over a decade easily, starting when subpath requests and the quota even became a thing. I can't really talk about the last few years though. Engrave was one of the very few things the path had.

2) The work it takes to be a decent/active guide. That spell should be an indirect reward for putting in the work of being a guide. Not saying other paths' guides don't have the same burdens, but...

3) It IS also the subpath devoted to trading and wealth. I do think it fits in with roleplay.

4) At many times throughout the spell's history, a portion of engrave income is donated to the path, which then goes down to walkers and the community via events.

I'm all for other subpaths' guides having equally cool abilities that they could charge for, too.

From looking in at the game every so often, it doesn't seem like $500k is all that much anymore anyway. It wasn't that much in 2007 when my in-game net worth was over $100m, and now it is 9 years later. And the majority of that was not from engrave - it was from gambling.

http://www.amazon.com/Who-Moved-My-Cheese-...g/dp/0399144463

You guys have got to find some new cheese already.

It's depressing that Nexus is in this awful of a state, but nothing is going to change and this "petition" is pretty sad.

No, you're not actually doing anything. Dropping red flowers isn't changing a single thing. KRU doesn't care.

No, I'm not just being a pessimist. You're delusional if you think this is going to get anyone at KRU to "wake up." They have made it abundantly clear by their actions for years that this is how they intend to run the game from here on out, grinding out cash from the remaining players until it finally dies.

Even if they did care, the petition list is absurd. Mug was an awful GM. I'll even agree that he cared a lot and worked hard, but he was incompetent and ruined so many parts of the game. This includes Tangun, which is the single biggest reason this game has been dying so horribly since his departure. No one wants to play this game if they have to put up with that nonsense. Even I gave up trying to figure out what to do to get out when I wanted to see what was going on but didn't feel like re-registering my account one night.

Quite frankly his caring and hard work cost the game more than it ever added and he was rightfully let go/fired. Would you allow a surgeon who kills a bunch of people via botched operations to remain employed because he "cares" and stays around the hospital trying to do more surgeries than any other doctor? No!

Support Nexus organizations? Are you serious? Those organizations have been enlisted to help KRU since the 40s, not vice versa. Do you really not understand this? They figured out the perfect way to turn players into unpaid interns. You think they are suddenly going to about face?

And by the way, more organizations SHOULD do what Elendhirin did. There were too many clans long before all these others like Alizarin, Covenant, Silla, SanSin, Viper, etc. came along. They should have never been allowed to become official; even Elendhirin at the time was stretching it. K'urimja might be the only other clan that was worth it to allow their existence since then, and that is only because of the Shadows. There are too many organizations and if I were KRU I would shut down 2/3rds of the clans just so that they MIGHT have time to work on the 1/3rd that would still exist.

Private servers aren't hurting Nexus - KRU is hurting Nexus. I don't personally know about the latest iterations, but it always seemed that the majority of people who played on private servers were fed up with KRU and wouldn't play Nexus if the private servers didn't exist. Either way, KRU should have used it as inspiration or motivation to put those ideas into Nexus and crush the private servers by competing against them. Instead, they don't care about these servers or trying to innovate Nexus, because to reiterate, they don't care about Nexus. So why do you think they care about your red flowers?

The only action that makes any real difference is voting with your wallet. But you're going to find that when that happens, the game is simply going to shut down. KRU clearly doesn't believe this game is going to bring in new players or is worth investing any money or resources into beyond what they are already doing.

And perhaps they can't. Maybe they can't afford to do anything beyond this right now.

Either way, if you're going to play Nexus then you have to accept this is what it is and it will only get worse as it has been for many years now. If you can't accept that, then you should find another game or something else to do with your life.

QUOTE (Aens @ Sep 7 2014, 05:15 AM) *
Before I started playing Nexus I also Placed BattleCity with a gamer tag of Orber*. Just a side note there have been a few BC2 games out on the web till this day.

Anyway...

I started Playing when I was 13 the summer before 8th grade. I was hanging out on "Excite Chatrooms" doing some final fantasy RP stuff when I decided to yahoo mmorpg's online. Somehow I found nexus and started the trial. My first character was named MageHawk and I leveled up to about 80 playing with Greensky in islet ogres. Eventually wasn't able to reregister because My dad was cheap. I then took his CC and registered anyway and created new characters. played ever since on many different characters.

I spent most of my time playing as a Spy although my first path(s) was druid on a few characters. Nexus was always a great time for me. Since I wasn't a PK'er or hunter I spent most of my time doing subpath stuff which really was dealing with drama 24/7. The things about it was it was always interesting to deal with drama because...dunno. The drama was always fun to keep up with. Still is, I mean I just reregistered after a year and got removed from spy and exploited by Rorsarch without explanation. Nothing but great memories!

Now I'm 27, married, have a kid, Captain in the army and my wifes in pharmacy school. I haven't played as much since we got married 3 years ago, but I like to register and talk to friends.

Its fun knowing Falaris used to play Battlecity

Yeah, I played a few of them actually. I kept up with it but when I went back to play on some of the remakes, it was very evident that the game didn't age well. Got bored fast by the lack of activity too.

I played BC as ¥Death§park¥ mainly, because I was so cool as an 11 year old rolleyes.gif

I was around 13 years old and was playing a game called BattleCity at the time after being introduced to it by a real life friend in school. That same friend, another real life friend, and a few other BC players went to Nexus and I came along too. I spent as much time as I could on computers/video games/the internet.

Now I'm about to turn 30, am engaged to the love of my life and living with her and our dog, and am a self-employed subcontractor with an oil & gas brokerage firm. Aside from near-daily meditation and exercise every morning, and a bad Reddit addiction when I'm bored at my day job, I spend most of my spare time working on premium websites freelance as I am attempting to transition to doing that full time.

I also can't stand to play most video games now that require any type of commitment beyond 5-10 minutes as I feel like I'm wasting my time that could otherwise be spent doing productive things to better my life. I register to Nexus maybe once a year at best now to say hi to some people for a night or two and walk around to feel some nostalgia, then let my account unregister again. And I still post on here from time to time because, eh, why not?

My bad. I had no idea that you were rejoining for completely selfless reasons because the path needed your help, rather than a personal desire to rejoin. I can't believe they would make you do any work to rejoin when you were in fact going back just to help them.

You're right, this is the problem in Nexus. I can't believe anyone would be offended when their faults and flaws are constantly pointed out by someone who, selflessly, was looking to rejoin the path they ran.

I mean seriously, as I'm sure you are well aware, it is so easy to take criticism objectively from people who not only are telling you that you aren't doing enough or are flat out wrong, but then also proclaim how they are coming back to help you because you're so incompetent. Especially so when the person giving the criticism is completely flawless.

Anyway, sorry for my mistake. I'll shut up now that I see your crusade is so righteous and that you, nor your pride and ego, had any part in keeping you out of the Chonguns.

I don't think DM is a troll and I already know the response I'm going to get: "You're wrong because -tangent- and everything is still everyone else's fault" and so on and so forth.

It's all good though because I needed something to waste time on for 10 minutes at work in-between typing up some legal documents and there was nothing new on reddit since the last time I had checked it sad.gif

QUOTE (darkmaverick @ Jan 8 2014, 01:38 AM) *

SilentS, honestly.

Many of the rules served absolutely no purpose. They existed just because some teenage boy Elder made a quick decision. For example the rules about showing your stats on the website; because meta-game things somehow translate into roleplaying in the game.

Oh, can't tell anyone your stats because they'll use the knowledge against you in battle, eh? What kind of insanity is that?? How exactly could anyone use how much vit you have against you?? The only thing it'll do is help you get a hunt.

And if Guldar's profile is any indication, that rule has been dismissed and somehow the world didn't end.

I mean, I could go on into a ton of other stuff, especially about how rules governing the issuance of subpath items were hindering engagement in the community, but what's the point? At the end of the day we'll never know what could have been had Elders such as yourselves made different decisions about people who wanted to disrupt the stagnation of the community. You all picked Elders to succeed you who you thought were most like yourselves who ended up either completely fooling you (as in your case) or doing the exact nonsense you all did; which led the game to being what it is today: as you say it, a ghost town.

I mean really dude, for all your talk of responsibility and duty, you ultimately stepped down to someone who immediately tried to disband the entire path! Your judgment of who should and shouldn't have been in the path, let alone who ought to be Elder, is not exactly sound here.

People like me might have a loud voice that shakes things up, but we get people to take notice and start discourse on how to make things better. We're supposed to shake things up; that is what leaders do! We innovate, and there's no innovation to be had without some degree of conflict.

There is a reason much of my writing has inspired the path for years. There's a reason a lot of the trials I came up with were continued on for generations of players. There's a reason events I was apart of organizing are still continued to this day. You act as if the efforts I put in only had effects that lasted until I left, when in reality they caused ripples that lasted for years. How many people can you honestly say are able to have that kind of impact? It's a handful and you know it.

Hell, even outside the Chonguns there are things I was a trigger point in causing, like my campaign of forum posts finally resulted in the 10% Whirlwind becoming implemented, which people had been talking about amongst themselves for years.

Past accomplishments shouldn't matter? Are you even reading what you're writing?

You guys needed guys like me who had helped set the foundation for the path to begin with, to come back and help you. People who could get things done. You were just too proud to admit it to yourselves and tried to come up with a lot of excuses for why not. You insult us when we're genuinely offering to help, and then feign surprise when we become upset and use that as an excuse to deny re-admittance?

Face it: You valued things staying as you always knew them over things getting better, and this is what the result was. You've only yourselves to blame.

1) That image is awesome

2) I'm so going to regret posting this, but I am just simply dumbfounded by the fact that SilentS spelled out for you why you were asked to do retrainings. Your argument up until then has been based on the fact that you already knew it all because you even created some of it, so why should you have to do them again?

Yet that point was never lost on the people you were asking to rejoin. They put you through it to see if you could set your ego aside for a little while and not be a disruption to the path. If you can't even do such simple and stupid tasks without [Content removed]ing and moaning about it, then how are you going to be as a walker again?

And you continue to prove their point so eloquently as to why they would even need to ask you to redo them in the first place. You couldn't just say to yourself "God this is stupid but whatever, I AM asking for these people to let me back in." Instead you act as if you ought to be there already with no consideration to the fact that you are asking to be let into a circle of people who have to accept you as a person too. In every word and action, you act as if it is your right just because you put work into the path in the past.

When I played Nexus in my teenage years, I also worked at McDonalds and was promoted to being a crew trainer. And then I got frustrated with management because I was young and stupid and I quit on not-great terms. Not terrible, but not great.

You know what I wouldn't dream of doing right now? Walking into a McDonalds and demanding that I be restored to being an employee, even a regular crew member, because of all the work I put into it when I was a teenager. Not only because I make more money by a large magnitude as a professional oil & gas landman, but because I would never presume that anything I did in the past when I was there meant anything years down the line after leaving on bad terms.

Save your breath trying to tell me how the situation is different, please, because the point remains that your actions and ego spent up any credits you bought with your effort, and then you still couldn't get over yourself enough to just suck it up and do the extremely simple things you were asked to do because your pride was and is still hurt.

Even after he posted it, you then completely bypass the point and go off on a rant about how the rules are stupid and unjust because teenage kids made them up and they make no sense.

I mean, I'm just simply gobsmacked that after this many years you are still the victim in your head, you take absolutely no responsibility for any of your actions or who you are, and you are still upset about it and keep coming back to argue it. I'm not saying that every Chongun you dealt with was perfect, in fact I'm sure some of them were downright terrible and are to blame themselves, but to completely absolve yourself of any responsibility for the position you found yourself in time and again for this many years is just [Content removed]ing preposterous.

Thank you for the gif though.

"It's not me, it's them! They cause all the drama; I try to stay away from it but it has followed me the entire time I've played Nexus. They were the ones who got poor little old me mixed up in all this, I did nothing! I'M THE VICTIM! THEY are the ones who are always mean to me, IT'S ALWAYS THEM! I did all this work for nothing; Not that I ever wanted elder, no no no! But since I did do all that work selflessly without expecting anything in return, I should have been given elder! But THEY screwed me over again!"

Look, I'm not saying everything you said didn't happen to you. What I'm saying is that you have a victim mindset and you take no responsibility for yourself. There is no true reality; there are 3 sides to every story, and yours is not the truth. It is all filtered through how you view things.

You can shift that view and change how you feel about this, and events that will come up in your life henceforth. Or you can keep playing the victim, surround yourself with drama, and always think anyone who disagrees with you is stupid and doesn't know the whole story and they're always wrong and you're always right and so on and so forth.

I know you're going to think I don't know what I'm talking about, and how could I? It's not like I ever went through subpath drama, or even drama as a high ranking carnage host, or drama with archons, or that I've been in a position where eldership came down to me or someone else in-between my first and second reigns, right?

But for a moment, let's assume I know a thing or two about life and being in the same position you are. If you take away nothing else from this post, and I'm sure you won't thanks to my sarcasm which will undoubtedly pit you against me because I'm not praising you with the positive attention you are clearly seeking (despite me giving you negative attention anyway, which undoubtedly is and has worked for a long time for you by the sound of it), then at least listen to this:

Rohnep did you and everyone else a massive favor. You are clearly not mature enough to handle being an elder, both for your sake and for every Muse's sake. Even with the game is such a state of disrepair and even with anything having to do with roleplay in the game at an all time low. I know you can't understand what it is like to be an elder having not been one, but take the advice from every ex-elder on here: you should be doing cartwheels that your mental health isn't going to further deteriorate from being handed that job.

I'm sorry you got your feelings hurt and that seemingly once again the universe and bad people have conspired against you. I hope you can find some peace and start breaking some of the vicious cycles you put yourself in.

I don't mind the lava since without it being put into context with a cave and having earthen edges, it could just be sparkly flooring. That goes for the older lava at the bottom at least; the top might be a little weird still since it is more obvious, but whatever.

The walls are absolutely a pet peeve of mine though.

Really? In all seriousness: you still have hope that things will change and the game will return back to even a fraction of what you personally consider the good old days?

I still check up on the game from time to time and these forums more often (as they are free), but not with any hope that things will change. For me it is purely a nostalgic exercise to walk around Kugnae, go in a few caves, remember some memories, chat with a few people I see online, and then log off again.

Even then though, I just started playing WoW again and my girlfriend is joining me now, and so I expect Nexus will fade from memory even more.

You clearly saw the word "slavery" and ignored everything else.

This is what I actually said:

Your position is that, when there are unfair rules and policies in place, people should just refuse to be part of a group and/or play a game than attempt to change the unfair rules.

You do realize this puts you in the company of white supremacists who believe slavery should never have been outlawed, right?

When there are unfair rules, people are supposed to protest them and demand change. That's how social progress is made.

The argument I made was thus:

The position that, "when there are unfair rules and policies in place, people should just refuse to be part of a group and/or play a game than attempt to change the unfair rules" is a position that echoes the pro-slavery arguments made during the Civil War (ex. "if you don't like slavery, don't live in a State with slavery!).

Because the position can be used to justify any number of morally reprehensible things, the position is obviously a bad one to adopt for even minor things.

That was my actual argument. I thought it pretty obvious.

Except a majority of people in a group on a game deciding the rules that must be followed in their clique and telling people if they don't like it, they are welcome to leave is not a morally reprehensible opinion in the first place, and it certainly isn't factually correct or incorrect. Not everyone has a right to join the Chonguns as I'm sure you know, and therefore they can decide whatever rules they want. They are not infringing on anyone else's rights besides their own members, they are not forcing their people to do something wrong, and if the majority are for this then so be it.

I find their rule to be utterly ridiculous, and there isn't a problem with at least voicing your own opinion on a public forum, but I'm not going to sit here and tell them how they should run their path, nor will I insult people who don't share my view or make outrageous comparisons whilst turning the derp up to 11.

This path rule goes against your values and what you would do if you were there, but your values are not right or wrong, they just are. Your opinion is not right, wrong, correct, or incorrect; it just is. This is what you have never understood, and so then you make ridiculous comparisons and go to the absolute furthest extremes in your metaphors.

You can use any kind of reasoning you want to try to get out of this, and I know in your own mind you are right and nothing is ever going to change that, but you clearly said "this puts you in the company of white supremacists." You made a direct correlation by saying "Your reasoning regarding this game makes you akin to people who are pro-slavery." You purposely chose that example because you were hoping to make the biggest impact and to also guilt the person into changing their opinion, but in the end you went so far overboard that you undermined your own point because no one can take you seriously, and moreover you were insulting to boot.

All things are not black and white. The reason we don't use the electric chair for people who steal purses is because it isn't the same as the premeditated murdering another person. Both are, actually in this instance, morally reprehensible, but we don't compare the two at all because one is much more severe than the other.

Look, at the end of the day you are free to make all the ridiculous statements you want, I'm just giving you an honest assessment of why most people don't even bother with you any longer.

Anyway, I have no idea why I even bothered to type this all out since you'll just come back with a wall of text 4x the size using every form of twisted logic so that you can feel good about yourself that you won an argument on an internet forum and feel you are right, but at the end of the day you talked out of your ass and no amount of logical fallacies are going to change that. Telling someone who opts for the position that "if you don't like the Chongun rule, then don't join the Chonguns" that they are in the same company as white supremacists is flat out ridiculous.

For the record, I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just saying it was a ludicrous example. You are still entitled to your own opinion to compare the guy to white supremacists, but that doesn't mean the rest of us have to sit here and not give our own opinions that your opinion is, bluntly stated, stupid.

Well, it's true.

If you take the stance that people should react to unfair rules by just leaving and/or not joining a group, and that you should just form a different one, that's akin to saying, "Don't like the laws? Don't live here."

No, it really isn't true. The world is not black and white. I think my past on Nexus speaks for itself when it comes to what I believe in regard to changing things that I don't believe are right. However, in no way, shape, or form would I ever suggest that anything I did on Nexus compares to being for or against slavery.

I'm not really interested in getting into a long discussion with you and I have avoided the main point of this topic because A) I really don't care about Nexus, 2) I find it seriously amusing that people are still getting caught up in drama and arguments over this kind of nonsense, and D) lists are better in threes. Yet I jumped in here because it is flat out absurd to suggest that someone who ignores another person's silly rule in a fantasy game is akin to ignoring slavery and being a white supremacist. We are talking about players having a stupid restriction placed on them as far as how they choose to enjoy this game versus the ownership of other human beings' lives. That's not even on the same continent, much less in the same sport, much less in the same ballpark. Actually, it's not even on the same planet. You're on like, Pluto.

It's still a planet to me, damnit sad.gif

So let me get this straight.

Your position is that, when there are unfair rules and policies in place, people should just refuse to be part of a group and/or play a game than attempt to change the unfair rules.

You do realize this puts you in the company of white supremacists who believe slavery should never have been outlawed, right?

Dude, whoa.

I know the servers haven't shut down, but I think "Nexus" ended awhile ago. The current game has the same graphics, but it isn't anything like what it used to be.

Not that I'm complaining; just making an observation. I'm sure the servers could be left alone for 4 more years and it may even last that long if people keep wanting to be "the most powerful virtual person ever," but Nexus isn't anything like it was from even 2-3 years ago, and even that was a far cry from the game in 2000-2005 or so.

This game requires much more than becoming free to play. There are so many parts of it that are broken.

The best thing KRU could probably do is reboot the entire game and make some much needed changes in the process while also making it free to play. There is no point starting now when you have people who have gigantic stats or who stuck around long enough to have iron grips on their positions. There are barely any new players and none of them can find hunts. Why would they stick around when the best thing they can ever do for a long time is solo in crappy, boring caves? Spider cave used to be cool in 1999, before WoW came out and had you feeling like an epic badass at level 15 with some of their quests and dungeons. On top of that, you get stuck in an absolutely useless newbie zone for a really long time.

I mean really, why would someone, as a new player, go to this game that is supposed to be set in Ancient Korea, walk into the starting zone, see maps that look like absolute crap, be cut off from the rest of the game for hours if not days depending on their playing schedule, and walk around killing stupid animals by swinging a crappy wooden stick? Worse is if they realize that this is essentially the hunting aspect of the game for the rest of the time they will be playing. What incentive is there to pay $10 a month for that? It is so much easier and better to go to WoW, EQ2, SWTOR, or whatever other new MMOs are out now.

And let's not pretend like people haven't heard of Nexus. Most MMO players are constantly looking for other games. In the decade and a half of Nexus existing, I'm sure a ton of people have checked it out and left when they realized what a piece of crap the game was, and that all probably happened 8+ years ago.

I'm sure lots of people would be upset for 'losing' so much of the effort they put into their characters, but I don't really see any other way to truly fix the game without resetting everyone. Hunting is a huge issue, there are people with massive stats causing insane balancing issues right now. The entire system needs to be changed. Maybe not the core mechanics of swinging a sword, of course, but how you hunt, the spells you have, how groups work together, and how fast you can advance are all issues that seriously need to be adjusted.

There is definitely a market for Nexus in the free to play arena. Look at the success of games with same-or-crappier graphics/gameplay mechanics. Right now though, the problem is the game is so poorly designed by too many crappy GMs and archons, the player base has contracted way too much making the game feel like a ghost town considering the over-expansion done in the past (there were too many clans even when the game was at its peak, and there are way too many useless areas of the game that are never visited except rarely for a quest here or there), and there is really no good way to advance unless you have played the game before and have friends willing to help you out, or you buy leeching services or a character on the black market. It won't matter if you make it free to play as it is now, Nexus isn't good enough to play as your MMO if you are a new player for the massive majority of people who try it out. And it also isn't good enough to play for all the people who have played it, as you can see they all left after getting fed up.

This game sucks now, plain and simple. Subpaths, clans, carnages, hunting, events... all of it is a massive joke at this point, and it has been for a few years now. It's a shame that the company who runs it doesn't really care to turn things around and try to inject new life into it, but then again, what else is new? When has KRU (and previously all the same people when it was Nexon USA) ever tried to grow the game besides a free CD in a gaming magazine years ago? When have they ever admitted that the game was fundamentally broken? When have they done anything, ever, to show they actually appreciate their customers? So why would anyone keep playing with the idea that things might get better or ever change?

If you can play the game and be happy with it as it is, good for you, keep doing what makes you happy. But I really don't understand why anyone even bothers trying to bring up suggestions as if they might be taken seriously by KRU any longer.

I think if you are looking to actually play a game, there are better alternatives. If it has to be Nexus-like, there is Nexia. If it doesn't matter what kind of game, pick any newer MMO.

If you are looking to cure yourself of nostalgia, register for only 1 month, play for a little while, get your fix, and then see how little there is to do because the population is so low.

The fact is that there simply aren't enough players to really support going back to the game as a new player. You are never going to find people to hunt with to actually play the game the right way. The best you can probably do is join a clan and get people to leech you up to 99 and beyond. Subpaths and clans run the same boring, stale events constantly. Clans are way, way too spread out, because way too many were allowed to be created even when the game still had a decent number of players. Now that there are so few people, half the clans are a joke and the other half are even worse. As for subpaths, I see

I'm not saying you can't still have a good time with some of the people who have managed to stick around all this time. There is always someone who you can strike up a decent conversation with, and I always manage to find old friends around for a few good chats when I do re-register. But I think this last visit I had cured me of my own nostalgia for quite awhile. The saddest thing was going into an elixir war during prime time with less than 20 players that was horribly lopsided and even I knew it despite not having played in one for practically a year just by looking at the number of participations each player had. The game is just so far gone from the days when you had 500+ people on at any given time day or night, with lots of quality individuals playing back then compared to the many idiots and jerks who have now taken over the population. This isn't to say there were not idiots back then, but I think many of the good people got fed up with everything and left the game to the jerks years ago.

Nexus did have a chance for a long, long time. A lot longer than a lot of players gave it credit for. I'd say even up until two years ago there was still a real chance to turn a lot of things around and get players interested in it again. And clearly it is still profitable or KRU wouldn't keep running it. I don't think anyone ever thought it would get to the pathetic state it is at now though and most probably assumed it would have closed down before now.

With that said, I'm not one of those people who wants to attack the game and hurt it. If you could actually play and manage to have fun then I'd be glad for you for finding enjoyment in it. There are definitely times when I myself see the $10 as worth it just to walk around Kugnae and Buya and think about friends and good times I used to have, and if that is your goal then go for it. I just think it would be very difficult if you weren't going back to a character that already was 99 at the least and legitimately wanted to start playing the game from scratch again.

I was just reading this and found it interesting that Curt Schilling took his crappy game to Nexon in Korea. With all their experience in MMOs they must have laughed pretty hard based on this article.
