Also, I doubt the official baram mapeditor is out there anywhere. When working on Exile, our contracts pretty much stipulated distribution of the server associated softwares (client image/text editors, mapmakers, etc) was a breach of contract and that we'd be sued if that happened willingly, or EVEN if the software happened to "leak" by mysterious coincidences.

The editor "everyone" uses was basically released by Fafnir and this was before such contracts had those clauses. The same happenned with the equivalent Baram Editor. Since 5.33-6.0, I am almost certain you will not find "any" official nexon mapmaker, and the only persons in TK having access to that are archons extremely high up the chain of command, who probably have to sign an NDA to get it.

They will probably not want to risk being sued just by distributing it to their friends.

And Ally, screenshots, ya right tongue.gif I hear opening .cmps on Aesir is helpful too ^^

^ You are wrong about this.

About what in particular, as in my response contained multiple information ?

If I'm wrong about the fact that a 6.0 Baram Editor was -officially- released by Nexon (which is entirely possible), please, feel free to link it to us. There are tons of editors available to the people who know where to look, but the "official" one used by Nexon ? That is very unlikely.

If you think I'm wrong about the fact that Kru's contract specifically requires them to not distribute the editor publically, then you're wrong yourself, as it most absolutely does. (And ours required the same thing)

It is also absolutely 100% true that not all archons have access to the editor actually used by Kru. Do they actually have to sign an NDA when they get it ? Maybe not, but I just said it wouldn't surprise me considering how strict Nexon was with releasing any software considered internal.

Oh derp, I forgot for a moment I was posting on a forum, so I need to specifically point out every aspect and "speak" verrrrryyyyyy slowwwwwwly. I didn't take your post as saying it was officially released anywhere, but rather that there was no official Baram map maker out available out there at all. There is. Not available for public consumption of course.

I also think a lot of people also give KRU a lot more credit in their legalities and ethical practices then they deserve..

You have Wal-Mart and your local community-run corner store.

Wal-Mart is under the constant scrutiny of the public and internal managements eyes. Your local corner store, not so much.

While I have no doubt you are right about them needing to be restricted with their use of certains things, their rights, ect. It's also a question of enforcement and whether or not Nexon -really- cares about their subsidiary they abandoned in 2003 enough to take any action or investigation into these sort of activities.

But anyway, what I meant to say is...Yes the Baram editor is out there, the official one that KRU uses. And no there is no NDA needed to have access to it. Whether this practice is ethical or follows the guidelines laid out by Nexon is debatable. Infact unless someone who directly works for KRU or Nexon ever comes out and speaks about these subjects, everything we try to discuss, assume as right or wrong, or against any legalities is purely speculation and opinion.

Ugh, now I remember the exhausting nature of covering all angles to avoid flame in forums...why do I bother?

Let me add my own disclaimer, that the only factual points in my post are A. The Map maker that is utilized by KRU Interactives GM is in fact, available to people not directly employed with KRU interactive (and more then just one or two archons) and B. No NDA is required to have access to it. Anything else is purely opinion and speculation.

Our mapmaker was basically pieced together in a day and is indeed extremely uneasy to use. It was simply necessary to get one quickly to create new content. It does let us use doors though oO (doors are just like any "objects" to the game, such as rocks and so on).

We do want to make a better one, and it's on the plans for our staff, but it doesn't take much priority to be perfectly honest smile.gif

wink.gif Yup Aesir! I've used it at times but honestly about 98% of my maps are screenshots. Why can't Aesir save a dang png or bmp with objects? Having just the base map with no objects is useless. So, of course, I use screenshots.
