So, I'm trying to find a good method to take text from Nexus and convert it into a more standard format (i.e. wordpad document) so that it can be more easily manipulated and archived.

So far, the only option that I've really found is to transcribe by hand, either as it happens or from screenshots.

Does anyone know of a more efficient way to do this? Ideally I'd like a set-up where I can dump my chatlog into a text document, but as far as I know there is no utility to do so.

Short of that, suggestions as to programs or utilities that might make transcribing text from screenshots easier, maybe by way of text recognition. I know things like this exist for use in scanning documents, but I have had trouble locating anything that would be useful in this particular situation.

Ideas?

I haven't looked into this beyond the thought popping in my head as of five seconds ago, but it seems like your best option is googling OCR and going from there.

This is the first thing I found that seems like it could work:

Great suggestion. I found some ideas, but nothing that seems reasonably simple unfortunately. All of the different OCR programs I found require converting the files into .tff format, but for now I think this might be the only option.

Same problem as above, but even worse it requires .pdf

Do either of you know what the font in Nexus is called?

I always thought smallfonts looked a lot like Nexus words.

I tried using a typography-finding website to uncover the answer, but it gave me the wrong answer....

That page gives a few options. Just make sure they have a batch process if you need to convert a ton of files.

I think he was looking for me..

It's its own font. I found some similar fonts, but they all had their differences. This is the closest match I ever found:

http://www.1001freefonts.com/OrangeKid.php
(Some of the symbols are really messed up though)

I was actually considering the idea of recreating the font from scratch at one point, but for as little as I needed it, it ended up being easier to just rip what I needed from screenshots.

Here's a tool that can help you find fonts:
http://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/

The tool isn't bad, but I don't think it ever found anything as good as OrangeKid. The other problems are that sometimes you need to spend a lot of time resizing and cleaning up your image and you end up with a lot of results that will cost you money.

I wrote a program that logs nexus chat to text like 10 years ago... it still works. I'm not sure if it is legal to use or not (it doesn't exactly give a player an 'advantage').
