Alright. So something kind of strange has been going on lately.

Ever since Santa Mhul, my internet has been all sorts of whacked out. Constant lag, disconnects, yadda yadda. We finally decided to pick up a new router, and it has mostly fixed the problem.. I guess more like changed it. Now, while I'm actually *doing* something, my internet works fine. However, not 20 seconds into not moving on Nexus, I lag out.

When I run a traceroute through the nexustk site, it begins timing out after the 11th hop usually. I don't really trust it very much, though. All other traceroutes done manually and to sites such as google and yahoo are normal.

In my router's firewall log, there are a LOT of entries, happening in random intervals, with titles such as: "UDP Flood to Host", "fragmentation flood", "Ping of Death/Tear Drop", and "Smurf". Mostly fragmentation flood though.

So, any clue guys? Thanks.

I have no idea,

I would probably go to your local Computer Repair store and have it looked out. It could definately be something within your computer. I've had problems with computers in the past [laptops] but I think it is mostly because Best Buy doesn't do their job very well!

I've had my hard drive replaced several times on best buy computers, my last Toshiba I had the hard Drive replaced and then a month later.. replaced again. Now I have a Acer windows Vista and it is fiiiine!

Perhaps you need a new computer? Yet, that'd be a last resort! I'd definately have a look see into the computer itself by someone who has maybe delt with problems and games before (No doubt, counting all the people who play WoW)

That'd be my sugguestion! Sorry I can't be more helpful sad.gif

I've been having (and hearing about) some lag problems, when I normally don't experience any. It could be new game features this time. blink.gif

I had a problem before where I couldn't stay on nexus longer than 2 minutes before I lagged out. It lasted about 3 or 4 days then cleared up but I don't remember what I did to fix it. It was either something in my internet options I adjusted or I did something with my firewall.

I hope it's not a computer issue.. durn thing's brand new. sad.gif From Best Buy, though, ironically enough..

Yeah, now that you mention it, Rachel, it could very well be the new game features... heh, should have taken my wisdom test I guess. tongue.gif

Thanks!

Well, it seems like it was the Santa Mhul event. Either that, or the router.. we ended up just springing for a new one. tongue.gif However, seems we've developed a new problem:

I can't idle.

Yeah. If I sit still for more than.. about 30 seconds, sometimes longer, I get disconnected. As well, while on Firefox, pages take between 5 and 15 seconds to load (as opposed to the usual 1 or 2). Not sure if they're related, but I imagine they are.

Thanks again for your replies. smile.gif

Do you have an antivirus?

While it could be any antivirus really, in particular the new version of Norton when the security settings are turned up too high can literally make the internet unusable. I know with Verizon Wireless aircards, you have to create a manual dialup connection through Windows rather than use the Verizon software and turn down the security settings just for pages to come up.

This happens especially when your connection goes dormant. For some reason it seems that Norton locks the connection as dormant and won't let it come out (at least with aircards and this might be true for landline connections as well).

Also, if you have a router, then you probably have multiple computers. Is this happening on all computers or just yours?

Especially given that Firefox is taking much longer than usual, the issue probably lies on your end. While some things changed with the Nexus client before Santa M'hul, I don't think that would be the problem. It is most likely coincidence that it happened while other things on your computer/with your connection changed, because the changes were not 'undone' with the client after Santa M'hul.

Of course, this is all if it is just your computer. If it is all computers, then one of the hubs from you to the Nexus servers is having problems I guess. I would tend to believe this is not the issue because when you get past the first few hops, you get onto the main internet streams and issues with those are fixed much quicker than the time you've had this problem.

It's on all computers. I've decided that it's my ISP; speakeasy says that I'm running at about 28.8k right now. :\

Big thanks again for everyone's input. <3
