Meh, still not playing. Somebody sent me a reg code because apparently I had one of their items they wanted back. Logged in long enough to give it back, then havnt been back since. That was 7 days ago now. Honestly it was only coincidence that it happened after DM posted that, cause at that time I was not regged.

This kind of question is rather useless to ask, especially on these forums. Far too many bitter current and former players these days, the few active forum members left here would mostly fall into that category. Most will almost always answer no, with a few who would answer yes. Basically Nexus has not changed play wise, just the people who are playing it. If it is worth returning to or not is entirely up to you on how you respond to that. For the past 20 years I have always said "Nexus is what you make of it", meaning it all depends on how you play the game to know if it is worth your while or not.

So two options basically if you want to find out;
-Make a newbie and run around for a bit to see who is still left and see if you get any urge to rereg
or
-spend the $10 for a month and decide from there.

Cop out or not, it is still better than what it was. Albeit a decade too late.

What Stagnation Looks Like.............

This thread. Same things said over and over from both sides.

Give it up, while a small handful might enjoy a retro server, there are not enough players to make it worth while or sustainable. People would move on quickly, realizing it is not as fun as what they once thought. Especially if there is an even lower player base than what Nexus currently has.

This in-game wiki concept was around at least since Mug. He had some idea for it but "no time to continue it". He talked about it a little before he left. How far it got or if it even got started, who knows. But oh well....

As for this whole "copyright" crap... The info and details themselves are what Kru themselves created, with the player base (not just NA) putting it into an easy to use format (the guide DM talked about). If you want to nitpick, some of the info can be written by hand by anybody and it could still be claimed it was copied from NA because of the fact it would be almost identical. Cave levels and stats, quests, commands. Maps, graphics, images... They all belong to Kru (who lease it from Nexon, the creators), even if a player pieced them together. There were times that even NA would simply copy and paste stuff that somebody else had written in game and posted it on their site (walk throughs for example on permanent quests). You cannot tell me that they can even attempt to copyright that after people forgot who originally wrote them. It is a mess if you start going about it in that manner. Also nobody is taking any credit for anything by adding it to the wiki. All it states is who created the page last edited it. Nothing about edits in between. Even for the few edits I have done, they were all by memory. Even though those bits are on NA, does that mean I copied it?

While I may agree with much of what has been said on this thread, it is still overboard and overbearing to deny the info being transferred over. It isn't like every detail is going to be posted there. It is meant to be a simple in-game help guide that contains basic information on how to play, with some history background. How far it will actually go eventually? Who knows at this point, but I doubt it would "steal traffic" from here.

Here are the four posts on the board since nobody else wanted to do it. Spacing sucks due to the forum settings and I am to lazy to deal with it anymore than what I have.

(Updated: 9/2/2016)

<b> ---------------------------------------------------------
<b> Unique Engrave Information
<b> ---------------------------------------------------------

The Unique Engravement is an engravement that is
completely one-of-a-kind, never again to be duplicated
by any member of the community in the future.

Unique engravements offer exclusivity as well as
protection. Once an engravement is made "unique," it
cannot be unengraved by anyone other than the original
creator of the unique. It is completely exclusive to
you. Adding this level of security to an item makes it
extremely difficult to steal. If in the event that your
unique engravement was ever stolen, it would never be
un-engraved, making it impossible to sell.

Once created, your unique engravement along with your
name will be added to our list on the board located in
the Kugnae Gathering.

The fee to make your engravement a unique engravement
is 350,000 coins. Unique engravements can be applied
to current or newly created engravements. The fee for
"set" engraves are 2x the normal amount of your total
engrave request plus a 10% discount. Any guide of the
Merchant Guild can make an engravement unique for you.

If you decide to transfer ownership of a uniquely
engraved item, we ask that you notify a guide of the
Merchant Guild. A fee of 100,000 coins will be charged
in order to transfer the unique ownership. If you do
not wish to transfer ownership of the unique name,
than it will be removed from the list of unique
engraves.

If you are interested in obtaining a unique engravement,
please contact any Merchant Guide.

<b> Unengrave Policy
<b> ---------------------------------------------------------

The Merchant path provides unengrave services based on
the following guidelines:

- The Merchant Guild reserves the right to refuse a
request if there is a chance that the item being
unengraved was stolen.

- The Merchant Guild reserves the right to perform a
thorough background check before filling any unengrave
request. This may take up to ((2 weeks)).

- The Merchant Guild reserves the right to verify the
ownership of the item before filling any unengrave
request. This will be doubly enforced for extremely
rare and expensive items. We recommend that such
items be uniquely engraved in order to make the
verification of ownership easier.

- The Merchant Guild reserves the right to inform the
owner of any unique engrave of your attempt to
have an item bearing its name unengraved.

- Any person who requests an unengrave of a uniquely
engraved item will relinquish ownership of that
unique engrave.

- If you sell a uniquely engraved item, you relinquish
your ownership of that engrave, and it will be
removed from the list of unique engraves.

<b> ---------------------------------------------------------
<b> Unengrave Instructions
<b> ---------------------------------------------------------

Contact any Merchant Guide for an unengrave.

Simply hand the item to be unengraved to a Merchant Guide
who has offered to perform the service for you and they
will remove the engrave.

The fee for our unengraving service is 100,000 coins.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact any
Merchant Guide.

Dear Community members,

Thank you for your patience during our engrave suspension period. It was necessary that we be absolutely sure that our new tools work as intended. We strive to deliver the highest quality and professionalism in all of our work and we are pleased to offer our new services to you all.

We expect that you will be rather pleased as well since our new services offer a myriad of "set" possibilities. Our projects for demand on ASCII-type set engravings are high. These new styles are something that our path and community as a whole have been anticipating for a long time. Here are some examples:

4-Set: 6-Set: 8-Set:
<> Carat <> . . . . .|| 0\000/0 || . . . . <> .XXXXX. <>
<> Cut <> . . . . . . || 00\0/00 || . . . . <> X'X:X'X <>
<> Clarity <>. . . . || 000|000 || . . . . .|| XX'X'NX <>
<> Color <>. . . . . || 000|000 || . . . . ** XXo.oXX <>
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .|| 00/0\00 || . . . . .** XX'''XX <>
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .|| 0/000\0 || . . . . .|| X'X:X'X <>
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .<> X|X:X|X <>
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .<> X.XXX.X <>

The ASCII set can be whatever you want to create. These are just examples. All engraves will be distrbuted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Since we expect demand to be high, we also offer over-night engraving services and request only that you cover the parcel fee. The engraved item will be in your mailbox when you wake up the next morning. Or if the parcel fee is too high, we'll simply hand it to you on the next day.

The engrave policy has been updated and can be found on our board located in the Kugnae Gathering. Our prices have also been adjusted to reflect the current market's value. Our pricing, for the most part of at least ((10 years)), has not been updated. The guide circle deliberated for days on the new price schedule and came to a conclusion that would be fair for today's market, all environmental factors included.

Any guide can perform an engrave for you. If you have any questions about our new engrave styles or policy, please do not hesitate to send all messages directly to me or any guide via n-mail. We'll get back to you as quickly as we can!

Effective immediately, 10:00 PM EST 9/2/16, all engrave services are officially open for business.

Signed,

Acera

Funny.... Just before Mug came into power I submitted a request that asked for the use of an AI system like that if it would be possible for a community wide quest. I dont have the notes on it anymore but a few path members drew up a request draft that would utilize it as an escort mission type. Long forgot the quest itself and the rewards, but at the time it was something we pushed upon. We were told it couldn't be done at that time after a while of talks with GM Kru and then it was dropped.

QUOTE (darkmaverick @ Aug 16 2016, 02:00 PM) *
You weren't even in the Chongun path when Pardon got nerfed. You were still an unpathed warrior.

I was still a Guide when the change happened. Gild was Elder.

( for history sake, this was the second time Chonguns had been nerfed -- originally Evaluate opponent also worked on players but after someone -- possibly Icy, I can't recall -- used it to reveal someone's stats over Sage it got nerfed. I remember the nerf happening with Pardon because it came sudden without any warning until we just noticed we couldn't pardon the serious offense anymore and Gild was in an uproar because we were the only path getting systematically nerfed).

I don't doubt that the Archons and Judges pressured Chonguns to not pardon certain people they wanted to ruin, but the spell originally could pardon every jail brand. We had no rules over its use, and we took payment in Trigram key sets. I used to do pardons at East gate Kugnea.

I remember that I had to update the Pardon post we'd make on the subpath board after the nerf happened. I was the one who changed the post originally written by Icy, since Icy had left the path by this point to become a Barbarian.

To your credit, I do recall the incident where they stole the idea for Royal Pardons, or at least hearing about it shortly after. But there would never have been a need for the proposal in the first place had the original version of the spell never been tampered with.

*Sighs* Why do I bother.... Granted I do not know what was done before I joined the path, or even before I got guide, but I can tell you right now that what you are saying was never the case from the time I first became a guide to now. The ~ONLY~ jailing marks we cannot physically remove are Bug Abuse and Sexual Harassment (the ones before Serious Others became the standard for all marks). Every other jailing can be removed by the pardon spell, including the SO mark. That is the same spell that the Archons use when they do the Royal Pardons. I had to explain it to multiple archons, including Marama (twice) on how the spell was to be used and what was required. As for the other nerf, that was never in effect either during my entire time, but that was most likely because when it got moved to being a walker spell instead of a guide only, it got reset to the original settings.

The guide I was referring to no longer plays the game. Also her archon got fired for some disagreement/fight she had with Sarina for something that happened in the Diviner path that made her leave the path, or so she claimed.

QUOTE (darkmaverick @ Aug 15 2016, 12:09 PM) *
Just FYI here but one of the first things Sarina did as Archon Primogen was get Chongun Pardon spell nerfed so that certain crimes could no longer be removed by the spell. This was stuff like serious other and whatnot -- the kind of jail marks they liked to put on people to ensure they could never join a clan and subpath ever again. I vaguely recall arguing about it with the subpath Archon, whose name escapes me at the moment, but it was a big freakin deal and we knew it was purely a political move.

Years later after some community pressure, they created the "Royal pardons" system so that these jail brands could be removed, but the Archons completely control that process, so it's pretty much a joke.

Just to clarify this, Pardon was never nerfed, nor changed in any way. It was just the god rules governing on how we can use the spell that was heavily laid against us. Also I had MANY arguments against Sarina on her Archon as well as other justice archons as they were cycled for us pardoning some that they never wanted pardoned. For example, one was branded Profanity over some really idiotic, and morally wrong, joke/stunt (call it what you will, doesn't matter right now), and after a while it was eventually removed via Pardon Tribunal. They all jumped down my throat over it for removing it as if I did it on a whim (anybody who has been to the tribunals knows they are done via votes), I had to fight back stating if they wanted it unremovable, mark it accordingly. That just went to show they slapped any branding they felt like. The "offense" was not even illegal to begin with according to game laws. There were others, but that one stood out the most.

As for the Royal Pardons, what a [Content removed]ing joke that was. The guides and I were drafting up proposals to try and get us to be allowed to do the Serious Other, and other jailings that we weren't allowed to remove, to be allowed once again (We did try for quite a while to be allowed to do it before this point). Just as we were finalizing the draft, it mysteriously disappeared from the guide board, and ALL posts that referenced it the day the Royal one was announced. With, surprise surprise, the exact draft we wrote up, with very minor editing to the post. I was so choked and laid into Marama, GM Kru (he was still kicking around at the time), Mug, and the ticket system. In the end I got threatened, again, to not persue the topic any further or face consequences (I got that threat often now that I think about it). And what really set me off after that, one of Sarina's diviner guides, who was also an Archon too, told me that she claimed that she wrote it herself. It was never community pressure that did it. It was opportunity on her part to take advantage of somebody else work and effort to try and get it pushed through.

Typing on my phone, so going to keep this brief.

When talking about time needed to get these stats, keep in mind those are under optimal LEECHING conditions. No new 99 is going to max every 30 min hunting with a group of their own stats. Same with Ilsan. Depending on what their play time per day is, it could possibly take 2-3 days to get an equivalent max. So that time theory doesn't work in this.

The Sam/sa time trials, by the time you get sa, you would be over half was to sa on MQ's. Remember, those trial's are not there for us, but rather for Kru to keep us regging.

As I have said before, other fixes are needed first. Ways to keep new players playing, then make the game less monotonous to play. Add more content. Doing that, if successful, could bring the population up. In turn it would give people more options to hunt and/or interact with others. DM' ideas and assessment are on the right track though.

Meh. Not going to defend myself, just stating a point. My second post was after listening to the person I replied to whine for a good hour and a bit repeating the same lines over and over again trying to justify his words on clan chat. I stand by my replies and still say Nexus needs changes from the bottom up, not starting at the top. As it is the double exp is still in effect for those who are under 99, but exp gain is the least of our worries at this moment.

trace.nexustk.com still points to their old provider. The new servers are on AWS, so I'm not sure how relevant a trace would be, especially since it doesn't do anything other than a traceroute.

Fair enough. To be honest I completely forgot about the provider changes.

Since you said you tried to reinstall it already, try http://trace.nexustk.com/ . Almost sounds like you are getting blocked somewhere and cant make a full connection. And/or a firewall blocking it?

QUOTE (Songa @ May 24 2016, 05:06 PM) *
All that he requested is that the maps had to be made by us. The Muse Elder at the time made all of the new Muse maps herself and from what she told me, she only had access to the old map maker. I remember mug having to correct a lot of issues because even an experienced map maker would have issues. (Keep in mind that the old map maker had the old graphics. The biggest problem was that a tile didn't exist anymore or looked completely different. Talk about Russian roulette with that [Content removed] but I digress.)

Actually it went clan/subpath requests made by players with the old 3.0 mapmaker -> Archons then loaded that file in the 5.0 mapmaker (that everybody was told they didn't have) that up converted it, then did whatever corrections they could do -> GM loaded that version into the current 6.0 they have and do fixes there.

What we all had to keep in mind at the time, and possibly even now, was that from each version of the mapmaker, not all the tiles were the same. So there were a few that either got completely messed up, or just simply showed the wrong tile set. Not to mention whatever graphic we did want that was not in the original program we had to request to be added, giving exact coordinates of where it could currently be found in the game, and hope that the GM would allow it to happen.

I had something with similar results happen to me, but only when I was on my laptop when out of town. Try a traceroute. In my case one of relays blocked my connection, and it happened out of the blue. I was playing Nexus, there was an OS update, then couldnt get back in.

Bleh.... I am not going to say much on what has already been said, because I have mixed feelings on it for both sides of the coin. But I do agree something needs to be done, and it is going to tick off people no matter what happens. But what I DO want to comment on is the BS of "PC Subpaths are for RP only, NPC is for hunting". That is utter BULL[Content removed]! It should not matter if you are in a NPC or PC, you should have an ~EQUAL~ chance to hunt, as well as an equal chance to RP. The only difference here is NPC has more free reign on how they want to do it and not be tied down to set standards. While some subpaths had advantages over others that they shouldn't have, what really screwed things over was the introduction of the RAGE and CUNNING spells. That drove the huge wedge between everybody from the very beginning. DM was spot on stating those spells, along with the other power shifting differences, should have been base spells (personally, I hate those spells in general and would rather do without).

My useless two cents is basically this: Overall main spells are base path, each subpath (PC and NPC alike) should get their own twist/perk(s), be it hunting and/or RP based (I say both for all). But it should be within reason and balanced. Path items and weapons are non factors because of the fact that event items far surpass them in every way. They are more just status icons now for the most part.

Since long ago, Nexus has never had any GM capable (or willing) of doing proper balance or fixing long standing issues. I am not going to hold my breath on them even starting now and just considering this a pipe dream. Also am keeping a firm line on "practice and theory". Everything mentioned here is theory: Looks great in writing. But when in practice: Not everything will run how you want it to.

Using Nexus on the Win 10 RT I had a few crashes too. It wasnt as frequent as 8.1, but they were still there. Hopefully that is fixed since the OS is now live. Now if only my laptop will upgrade from the RT to the official release >.< Still havnt been able to do that yet.

One of the many reasons FFXIV is amazing.

They treat their players like shareholders, invite you to discussions and "letters from the producer" about future content, changes to current content etc.

The production team REALLY cares about the player base and is constantly listening to valuable feedback.

Pretty much the complete opposite of KRU. lolol

Except when you have issues with your Token pw. My phone broke a while ago and I lost my token program on it and lost my removal code for it, so when I tried to contact SE about it so that I can remove it from my account, I was told SOL. Basically gave up trying to get back into my account, which sucks cause I felt like playing it for a while. Then again it has done me a favor, saving me $20 CND a month for something that I can only play on the weekends since I been working out of town weekdays for a while now.
