Given how the dye system works, that looks more like a custom script than a typical dye function. That could be why they don't have it here. If they don't have the code for the algorithm that is altering the color pixels according to a specific pattern, they can't do it.
I've noticed a lot of the 'flashing' dyes don't work for armor that had them by default, such as Wind platemail.
That they dont have the script or know where it is seems plausible.

i know what dye/color that is. it was in the old client, like 4.x. i guess that's just what it looks like in 6.x...more smooth and clean. some animals had it, some items/weapons had it, you could use it for your profile picture, back when people actually did that...heh. i think only one character had that dye, i forget who she was or why she was dyed, or if it was a bug. some people had also hacked the carnage system once and saw all the dyes we actually did have. we have a LOT. like on the level of 40 or something. if you ever open the old portrait maker, you can see the colors we have, some are together - those are just the obvious combination of dyes we don't have. if you ever see an animal in tk, like in tigers, thats technicolor red/orange/yellow/light blue... it;s supposed to be changing colors. it's that dye in the gif. they just never got around to fixing it after kismet flubbed a lot of stuff somewhere in 4.7. it's a really old bug.
also: in original portrait maker, the bottom or second to bottom row consists of about 16 "colors" that are flashing or changing colors. either at a different phase, or cycling at a different pattern, or through different colors. this is what im talking about. that dye is supposed to be one of these 16 flashing colors. the river tiles, lake tiles, especially mythic rabbit and arctic is supposed to have a lot of tiles with these flashing colors. they just never got around to fixing this bug.
in conclusion, darkmaverick is wrong.

Flashing dye used to exist, stabme, but never in the spectrum shown above. There were two possible flashing dyes in the old system. One which shimmered from light blue to darker blue, and one which went from white, to blue, to red, to orange, the former being known as Sea Nymph dye, the latter being known as Flash dye.
After 4.0, a lot more dyes were added, but flashing dyes broke. They fixed them at some point later, but they no longer show, or are just no longer used, in 6.0. We have never had a dye in Nexus, that I'm aware of, that went from purple, to pink, to yellow, and if there was one in the client, it certainly never showed up in the game.

QUOTE(Laren @ Jul 21 2008, 07:10 AM) One which shimmered from light blue to darker blue, and one which went from white, to blue, to red, to orange I think the one in the gif is this one, it just has more colors in between (such as purple) to transition between blue and red because it's 6.x, 16 bit, and they can afford to have more colors in between and they obviously want to make it a smoother transition between the colors. i think the blue part of the dye isn't being showed in the gif. its reasonable.

More than likely its as the person before said. It's probably some sort of script that changes the dye variables on the fly seamlessly.

QUOTE(Laren @ Jul 21 2008, 01:27 PM) I'd hardly consider it the same dye after adding so many colors inbetween, and besides, the original dye shimmered across the clothing rather than having the same color shown all over. Compare Autumn's dye on the Immortals list on NA to this dye, and it's not really very similar. The only connection I can see is that both are color-changing.
that could be that the actual armor he's wearing only has one pixel and doesn't have any sort of design. the reason there was any shimmering on any other armor is because there were different pixels on it, they used a series of the flickering dye pixels instead of just one. ie, if i were to use summer potion on some spring robe, there'd be shadowing on it, right? because the spring robe has some specific pixels on it that are variably darker or lighter than the other. the armor on the gif could be one solid pixel value, so if i were to use summer dye on it, it'd just be solid green, no variation.

It's a dye, I've seen other people wear different clothes with the same dye. I just never took a picture of it, because it wasn't as cool as the mesh.
