Quick, someone invent a time machine and make this update happen a decade ago.

Pretty much, yeah, I won't be back.

It was a great game for what it filled in the market at the time, but the current model just doesn't work.

The private server E-TK did a great job of getting me reeled in and hooking me for a few months. It had what the game lacked, and had a bit more attention (especially for being a free to play game). If anything, KRU could learn a few things (how to create instances, how to create raids, how to create dungeons with lockouts and worthwhile gear, how to make quests, how to strike a balance between gear treadmill and horizontal progression).

KRU won't do that though.

This only thing that would bring me back to TK would be a complete overhaul of the game.

KRU doesn't understand...

- Item balance and keeping new/old items relevant so people WANT to pursue them
- Path balance
- Solo/Multiplayer balance
- What a time investment quest is
- PVP Balance
- How to make unique PVE game modes that encourage the player to try them ([Content removed] was able to create instanced content, raid bosses, so it's entirely possible on the platform)
- How to add features that don't punish the player
- How to monitor the game without lame in game punishments

The game just isn't fun compared to plenty of other games on the market. It was fun for what it was when MMOs were new, but they've done nothing to keep up with the market.

I don't understand writing novels to explain why this game failed.

The lack of understanding of how the game is played by players was the ultimate number one reason.
Time gating for nearly EVERYTHING.
Lack of adaption for how the game changed.

And HalombobTK, if you think the Justice system and "forcing players to be nice to each other" did any favors for the game, you're probably pre-dementia.

This game had one of the most toxic player bases I've ever experienced, and I played League of Legends for three years. The fact that you could convince a judge to jail another player and completely ruin their chance of playing most of the game turned the justice system into a petty way for people to try to get back at each other, while actual problems (harassment, real life threats, sexual harassment) were at the judge's interpretation.
Have a screenshot of a former friend saying a curse word in a private chat? Jailed!
Have a mound of evidence that someone is targeting you with harassment from multiple characters? No warning, brand, or intervention from KRU.

Coming out as gay in this game was a [Content removed]ing experience. Having a group of players that revolved around SuWaN's crew actively harass me for being gay and try to find every way possible to hint at it without out right saying it, while getting away with it time and time again, was pretty ridiculous. I've seen people in other games get permanently banned for a quarter of what people tried to do to me on a daily basis. I didn't care if they hated me over my ideas for the game, or because of PvP crap, but the anti-gay slurs were over the top and sanctioned by Tip and every other judge who'd see outright anti-gay slurs and just let it pass.

This game failed because it didn't look at other examples and try to emulate their success while maintaining the core of what makes the game unique (unlimited stats, player driven stories, player run politics).

Unless I can log on and progress without having to pay, it's not free to play.

If anything, this game seems to be making a shift towards a pay-to-win strategy, like many mobile games.

So uhh... have fun with that.

Krmit, you don't seem to understand "pointless, playerless, helpless grind to just access the part of the game people actually play in" with a leveling experience a player can do on their own OR with a party if they can find one and get to the end game without having to beg for people to hunt with them or leech them.

You're not going to find just regular players in sub-99 areas of this game, it just doesn't happen.

If the game had a method of getting to 99 on your own that didn't take MONTHS, I could see your argument, but it doesn't. Period.

FFXIV has a great quest driven path that takes you to the end game. WoW has the same. They also include elements that pair you with other players WITHOUT having to go through a helpless process of finding other players just to continue.

You literally upheld a system that was rife with corruption, favoritism, and ruined peoples characters over [Content removed] that could EASILY be solved with a chat filter.

You and Sarina both made the game much worse than you found it, and the both of you surrounded yourselves with an echo chamber that only allowed you to see what you did as a positive, with no effort to look into changing course.

It's [Content removed]ty parenting to let a very young child play a game with grown adults, and it's not your place to try to police video game content -- if KRU cared about protecting children they'd slap an age restriction on the game, create a real profanity filter, and put in the system a way to block people from contacting you on all linked characters.

I can't see explaining away any sort of time gating for features in the game.

I can see time gating for things that aren't core to the game (like glamour rewards for being registered), but having to wait 400 days just to actually access the end game is an instant turn off.

If someone wants to start a game and no life it and grind to the end game as quickly as possible, they should be allowed to do it. They shouldn't have to pay the company an excess of a hundred bucks and sit around for over a year just to join friends who are in end game content using end game gear and abilities.

There's a reason this game never took off and this was a BIG part of it. Every friend I tried to get to play liked the core concept of the game and the mechanics, but hated the time gating and the absolute horrible grind it took just to get them to level 99. It's just not fun leveling, period.

I love that no other successful MMO uses a player run "justice" system, and seems to do just fine, and doesn't have people quit because of it.

Vini, you're straight up delusional to even try defending this dumpster fire. So much of what it's supposedly needed for can be addressed with pretty simple terms.

1) Add a toggle profanity filter. Are you delicate flower who can't stand to see a curse word? Turn it on and be done with it.
2) Expand the ignore list. Players on your list cannot contact you or be heard in anyway.
3) Detach "justice" from having ANY kind of negative effect on your character besides putting you one step closer to a temporary or permanent ban.
- This include both joining player run organizations AND progressing in the game.
4) Dissolve the player run justice system. Use tickets to review any cases of extreme harassment, threats etc.

Having an item that directly effects progression in the game be acquired though real life money payment is a garbage method for advancement in a game, especially if there's no way to get those items other than to pay real money for them.

Even more so when you're competing with other players.

FFXIV does a smart job with running a subscription based game along with a cash shop because the cash shop is for purely cosmetic items and for purchasing things no longer available in the game because they were part of past events.

Disclaimer: I could give a [Content removed] less what happens to the game because I've already divested anything that would've kept me playing years ago.

Things I loved (This took a lot of thought)
1. The framework for PVP combat system to a point. Healing out made combat about timing. You can dodge some attacks etc.
2. The political nature and player run community for clans and subpaths (to a point)
3. The frequent events that used to happen that told a story and at times attached to player driven content (The entire Nagnang and The Forsaken story)

Things I hate (EASY)
1. PvE combat is monotonous and heavily favors a specific meta
2. PvP is wildly unbalanced
3. Classes in general are wildly unbalanced.
4. Subpaths having their own unique spells which effect PvP and PvE, making certain classes a "best in slot" pick (Spy Assassinate/Traps, Diviner 5 Way Sleep etc.)
5. The slow roll or nonexistent updates, especially for end game players who don't just roleplay.
6. The lack of a real method for solo content unless you're a Rogue or Mage
7. The lack of variety between the classes (Extreme TK addresses this MASTERFULLY and constantly updates and balances it)
8. KRUNA item shop that sells pay-to-win types of items (Amber bags, Mounts, EXP save/sell items etc.)
9. The echo-chamber in the top echelon of power in the game that prevents anything fun or creative from taking place
10. The ONE AND A HALF YEAR period you need to be registered in order to hit Sam san.
11. The player run justice system.
12. The player run justice system harping on people who misspell a profane word or skip a curse filter: no other game gives a [Content removed] about generalized cursing unless it's a massive attack against another person.
13. Player run events dictating the progress you can make in the Mark quests if you just play for PvE/PvP.
- No one should be forced to craft in order to PvE/PvP
- No one should be forced to buy a poem
- No one should be held back a year because they said a no-no word around someone they shouldn't have
- No one should have to participate in Carnage/Elixir/Fox Hunts
- Marks which give you spells which help you hunt even more efficiently should revolve solely around trials involving just that.
14. The crafting system is garbage (ETK is superior in this regard)
15. The creation system is garbage
16. The kiss asses who head things like the Justice system or the lower rings of the Archon circle
17. The lack of automated PvP events (ETK has automated Elixir AND a faster paced game called Paintball)
18. The drive for kiss asses to maintain the boring stagnation of "oh look this royal had a baby", "this royal is giving out war paint", with no focus or drive to create events with wedge issues that cause greater drama and events.
19. The online help ticket system
20. Itemization: At some point you need to move towards items that give percentage based stats, because players one shotting everything in PvE don't really have to worry about equipment.
21. The lack of item diversity or a general sense of how to introduce items that aren't automatically garbage or automatically best in slot.
22. The hand breaking mechanics of PvE combat.
- Healing should be more simple to do with your heal ranking up and healing based on a percentage of your max mana
- Debuffs like Scourge should be a once and done deal, one press of a button and the room is debuffed
- Paralyze need it's own version that hits the entire room for a brief period of time
- Sleep trap needs an upgrade that does a 3x3 square around the Rogue
- Among many other simple ideas that make the game less carpal tunnel inducing
23. The lack of anti-cheat software
24. The punishment of people using Keyboard King to fix an issue that anyone who understands how to tweak their BIOS can fix.
- ETK got it right in limiting the amount of keystrokes you can send to the server in a second, creating a balance for fluid keyboard movement without letting those with it at max setting to be completely ridiculous.
25. Tangun being the only area a new player can actually experience
26. New player experience from 1-99 being a huge chore that caused so many people I tried to play to end up quitting because it's painstakingly slow to get to the ACTUAL game, because 1-98 looks NOTHING like 99+

Top 3 Things that need fixing
1. A different company running the game
2. Main Path and subpath balances and tweaks (equalize the combat classes, remove the hand destroying mechanics of other classes)
3. Removal of the level cap. Set it to 99 with the cap being 160/80 without being able to fully finish the Il san quest (but can at least turn in the first three parts).

Ok?

Is that enough money to cover the cost of court fees, paying a lawyer and having a payout after to make it worth the time and money invested in the things I just mentioned?

You're failing to realize that if the payout of litigation doesn't at least cover the cost of hiring a lawyer, that you're most likely not going to get a lawyer to take the case unless you're paying for their services in full, up front.

No lawyer in their right mind is going to take a case based on contingency if the payout is going to be next to nothing. Unless the people running private servers are loaded, neither KRU nor any lawyer they hire is going to see much of anything in terms of a settlement.

So, unless they can find a lawyer to take this case Pro Bono, there's absolutely no financially sound reason to go after any private server.

I don't think anyone arguing that litigation is a route KRU could take understands how absolutely pointless that is, unless those running private servers have quite a lot of money OR KRU finds that it is a sensible investment of both time and capital in order to secure future monetary gains.

KRU makes next to nothing in terms of profit.
People who run private servers are, on my assumption, not making enough money or hold enough in assets for them to be a wise target to sue for damages.

If you're looking to sue someone who has no money, you're not going to be magically awarded money from another source if who you are suing can't pay. Sure, you can dock pay or force the sale of possessions, but if it doesn't help you quickly recoup your costs for hiring an attorney, you'll be hard pressed to find an attorney to take your case. Who wants to work for free?

People who have money to burn sue just to "prove a point", people who don't do it to recover losses.

So unless those who run private servers have some "just incase a company who does the official game sues you" insurance, litigation is a waste of time.

Say somehow KRU came up with the money to pay a lawyer, and say they take a private server administrator to court, and say they win a settlement:

It doesn't matter how much they try to award in damages, if the person being sued has no money you're not magically going to get money.

In regards to KRU and private servers, you have to look at it like this:

What damages can they recover from regular players who make a private server?
How much money would it cost KRU to have a lawyer to serve legal papers or go after private servers for damages?

Chances are, the people running private servers don't have enough money in terms of collecting perceived damages, and KRU doesn't really have the money to throw away on litigation that ultimately won't net them enough money to pay for legal fees.

The same thing happened with many of the events based around the inception of The Forsaken clan.

It involved the entire community, and I got to completely nerd out because I got to roleplay, hunt AND PvP.

There haven't been many events like it. Wind Gods were incredible, The Forsaken events, The different pirate sides/events.

There just aren't many epic events people get excited over anymore, mostly because those kind of events take a lot of coordination and time of the player volunteers as well as actual resources and time from the GMs themselves.

It's cute you make demands that I come up with ideas and then just flat out state you won't read them.

Did you play Mug at some point? Lol

All you've done is (crappily) insult myself and anyone else who doesn't play when we point out the myriad of reasons people quit the game or never started, and discount us for "giving up" on the game.

You're wholly unable to be worked with, Vini. If all you can do is sling poorly formed insults because someone doesn't fan-girl as hard as you over KRU or Mug, you'll get nowhere.

A quick run down of things private servers have done that NexusTK has made ZERO attempts to try:

- Instanced content with time lockouts.
* Some instances are bosses only, other instances are entire dungeons where you pull packs of monsters and must clear an entire room before progressing to the next.
- Automated player vs. player events
- New player vs. player content
- Attempts at class balance to make all classes useful and harmonize with each other
- Player access to map changes. This can literally be done IN GAME on areas that already exist, including changing all tiles, making some tiles unable to be walked on etc. There is zero reason why they must rely on map maker for a clan or subpath to make changes to the areas they own, it can all be done live in game.
- A tutorial that makes sense to the current game design and end game
- Access to major player hubs after passing a tutorial (why the hell does Tangun exist, and why are you kept there unless you pay to get out?)
- A cash shop that isn't pay to win. Every single item in the current cash shop that isn't cosmetic should be available to be obtain in game without buying it from a player who bought it with real life money.
* E T K has their own version of a 'cash shop' with only cosmetic items. It also has a donation pot that gives a buff to every player that increases bonus experience per kill, encouraging players to band together to "save the sun" buff to keep double experience.
- PvE content and upgrades that aren't tied to community action or time registered.
* It's 2015. Ee san and Sam san have existed for over a decade. There's zero reason a PvE mark should require you to be in favor with the people judging poetry, or for you to be registered to the game for the minimum of a year just to progress to the next level to obtain spells and items.
* This is literally the biggest turn off for this game when I would try to get new players to join: pay to actually see the game outside Tangun, continue to pay for almost a year just to be able to play with end game players. Then top it off with having to write poetry or craft AND go to in game player run events and those who literally just want to play to do PvE or PvP just quit.

You want to look at a successful model? Look to FFXIV. It BOMBED when it first released, so after they hired a new director/producer, they had Bahamut basically burst out of the moon and destroy the entire world, then took the game servers down for a year while they redeveloped.
The game now is incredible. It's constantly updated. It's completely different from what it originally was.
If I want to roleplay I can head to one of the city taverns and find a group of players to hang out with.
If I want to PvP I can queue up for several different PvP events (albeit, it's the weakest part of the game, but still pretty fun)
If I want to PvE, I can put together a group for raiding or dungeons, hunt notorious monsters in the game world, or use the "Duty Finder" to be matched with other players and sent to whatever content I please.
There's plenty of quests which unlock the rich story of the game, an aspect of the game I absolutely love besides raiding.

I don't have to roleplay in order to raid.
I don't have to craft in order to raid.
I don't have to pay in order to see and experience the actual game world, which is great because they allow players to play for free up to level 20 on every class. That includes questing, world content, dungeons and even a taste of raiding through "trials", which are instanced raid content that are straight to the point: you queue in or get matched with others, and you're face to face with a summoned monster.
You have every standard class available to be unlocked, with the only pay gated classes being the three new ones added with the expansion.

KRU has straight up failed in every aspect of marketing and player retention. The only ones left are hardcore fans and those who really enjoy being kings of their tiny kingdoms, be it PvP, PvE, or roleplay content and if it works for them, that's great, but it obviously doesn't work for the vast majority who have fled NexusTK for private servers or other games.

They'll continue to fail because they don't care. If they cared, they would have been on it years ago.

Vini,

I've sent a message to Rachel about the matter, if it's not you, then my apologies, but given your track record on those who do not agree with you, it's not that farfetched.

I never stated that I am "super cool" or that NexusAtlas/NexusForums wouldn't survive without me, but when TSWulf asked me to be the one responsible for administration of both, I took it on myself and used my own time and money, along with the help of others, to make sure that the websites could continue on after TSWulf quit. It's not bragging, it's just the simple truth. No one else stepped up to head the project, yourself included.

Your "protest" is a joke, but at the very least it got people talking (mostly about how poorly executed it is and how useless any kind of protest is). I've provided several proposals over the years to fix the game, all of which were ignored. Most of those ideas aren't found on your list of demands. A lot of my ideas are things private servers already cover, things that astound me that they're so easily and well executed by people who aren't even paid for their service; things that a for profit company should already be doing.
I don't want to "save Nexus". There's a reason I sold all my items and my accounts, because the game isn't fun and the people running it are content with mediocrity and providing as little content as possible. I'll stick to FFXIV where new content and class balances arrive every quarter, with hotfixes in between those large content updates.
It hardly makes me a "baby whiner" to state that KRU doesn't know how to run a business, manage a game, or make an appeal to new players (seriously, why is this game a subscription and why are unregistered players locked into ONE area that NO ONE uses?).

GMs like Mug drove away so many different players, except for the one demographic that she only ever interacted with as a player: roleplayers. Mug spent her time as a player doing boring (to anyone not a roleplayer) ministry events and subpath gatherings. She didn't PvP, she didn't hunt, she didn't boss hunt, she didn't farm materials.
She didn't make any real attempts to balance classes.
She didn't make any real attempts to add diversity in hunting.
She didn't make any real attempts to improve, change or add to PvP.
She didn't make any real attempts to make unique, interactive events.

You want the Nexus experience without sitting around being bored all damn day? Play a private server, and perhaps stop filtering one of the best private servers to "crap illegal server" just to try to attempt people from discussing it.

I was going through the few PMs I sent out via NexusForums and stumbled across this little gem I had sent to someone who I had to message because they had posted a bunch of things out of compliance with "Law 41".

QUOTE
2) If you know you could be jailed for saying it in Nexus, then why say it here? If it has no place in NexusTK, it doesn't have a place on the forums. Posts like yours endanger our Law41 compliance, and bastards such as BabyBoy would could read information like what you wrote on the forums, and then snap screenshots of people speaking in game about 'NexusForums.com', and then turn around and say (the person in the screenshot) is breaking Law41 because the Forums aren't compliant -- and I'm NOT having that. This is why we take what we do 'seriously', because I don't want to be the one responsible for someone having their character griefed by crybabies such as Xoran or Babyboy.

Along with being threatened to be jailed myself for not deleting content, we were constantly given threats by Mug and the Archon staff that if we didn't take down "non-compliant" content, they would deem NexusForums to be an illegal website to mention in game, which would then allow anyone speaking about the Forums or sending links to be subsequently jailed in game for sharing "illegal websites" in game.

So, Vini, as much as you want to convince yourself that I wasn't threatened with having my characters jailed or having the website be labeled an 'illegal website', it's simply not the case.

It's crazy because I spent my own money and time establishing server/domain space to make sure NexusAtlas and NexusForums could keep existing after TSWulf quit and stepped down, and I believe even hired Vini to work for NexusAtlas (or maybe he was there before I was editor? I forget).

But hey, great protest, the game sure is seeing marvelous results. rolleyes.gif

I was the one that started this particular version of NexusForums, thus the "Member number: 1"

It's crazy that I had Vini on my staff and disagreed with so many of his approaches yet kept him for a different perspective, but apparently he can't do the same lololol

Apparently disagreeing with Vini's take on all of this got me secretly demoted as a moderator... LOL
