I can relate to that in my youth. I was an outcast at an early age, then I got introduced to gaming when the Atari 2600 was released. Sega MS and NES followed, which became my escape, then the SNES, PS1, then PC Gaming. Online gaming came just when I started to get really mixed up with the wrong crowds. Think of it being like your own little paradise when you lived in a city of hell.
I'm glad I didn't end up like the last frame in that panel, though. However, I know a couple close friends that are at that stage in life (one just lost child custody for being like that =P).
