QUOTE (halombobtk @ Jun 7 2019, 08:37 PM) *
Your game will fail. You've never made a successful game like you described when you moved the goalposts to the other end of the Earth, and never will. Why? Because making a successful game is extremely hard and takes an absurd amount of advertising dollars and/or luck. Making a F2P private server reboot of NTK that aims to get 50-100 players is very, very doable and is being proven right now. My argument during this thread is being validated before our eyes, but you're too immature to acknowledge it. All you know how to do is make strawmen arguments like in your last post. Quote me anywhere in the 6 pages of this thread where I said that a rebooted NTK server would pull significant (let's say >1000) players. Don't respond without that quote or I will ignore your post. You have this weird fantasy that you're going to make some hit game, so you exist in a bubble and twist every argument into something that no one's talking about except you. This thread is about creating a TKR server, not a random successful game.

Strawmen arguments are infuriating. You're seriously the worst, DM.

As for the guy who chimed in about "loot boxes" - lol at him not understanding how donations to small private servers work. Jesus, the people in this forum are dumb. Kinda entertaining, kinda sad. The price of a random mount box on TKR is basically the same as the price of a pre-selected mount.

Anyone can make a game that reaches 100+ players. I know several discord rp servers and old-school muds that retain that many simultanious logins. So, no. You haven't proven anything. Get back to us next year.

Also, calling people childish and moronic whilst ignoring the point they're trying to make is highly reflective of your own attitude. "Look at me! I made a private classic server and it has 100 concurrent logins" has been your phrase of the week.

Your statements speak for themselves. Insanity is to further attempt to reason with you.

So, last couple of weeks I had a huge bout of nostalgia over Nexus and started rummaging through old files and records. Actually managed to piece together an old (from 99 or 2000?) family tree and a couple of stories I wrote involving nexus characters using the wayback machine. Most of my records were lost pre-2004, so I'm only able to get bits and pieces together and my memory's fuzzy on a lot of things from back in the day (relax, I remember being an unstable little $#!t back in the day). A couple of days into my nostalgia fit, someone who I remembered from Nexus hit me up on Facebook. We had a fun conversation. Brought back some good memories. I ended up talking to others that I haven't spoke to for the better half of a decade. Was fun, and I enjoyed it. This might seem a bit weird but I'm having getting to the age where I enjoy talking about the "good ol' days," even the parts with tension. Started looking up old players and seeing what they were up to, and reading up on Kru and Nexus itself. Contrary to what some people might think, this isn't depressing me or anything. I'm just in one of those moods this month and this is how I'm getting my kicks.

Anyway, point being, if anyone from the old days remembers me (Alston, Dukati, or any of my other alts), feel free to hit me up on social media or here on NF. Hell, you can show up just to call me a dick to my face. I don't mind. smile.gif

You can find me anywhere by googling FSBAlston.

Side note: Feel free to ask me anything. Whether I'm honest or not in my replies is up to you. wink.gif

QUOTE (SilentS @ May 7 2017, 07:47 AM) *
This kind of question is rather useless to ask, especially on these forums. Far too many bitter current and former players these days, the few active forum members left here would mostly fall into that category. Most will almost always answer no, with a few who would answer yes. Basically Nexus has not changed play wise, just the people who are playing it. If it is worth returning to or not is entirely up to you on how you respond to that. For the past 20 years I have always said "Nexus is what you make of it", meaning it all depends on how you play the game to know if it is worth your while or not.

So two options basically if you want to find out;
-Make a newbie and run around for a bit to see who is still left and see if you get any urge to rereg
or
-spend the $10 for a month and decide from there.

Out of curiosity, do you still play?

Holy hell, what did I miss?

Edit: Never-BLEEP-ing mind. Every one else got this handled.

halombobtk, You have no idea what "old" TK is. You also use the worst analogs for gauging demand. You don't listen to intelligent conversation whilst attempting to create echos of your own statements until they drown out dissent. Then you have the audacity to feign intelligence and superior knowledge to several people who have dedicated far more time than you have to this forum and this game.

I think every thing else has been said that needs to be said. I concur with the majority here. A "retro" or "vanilla" server (where you have no hotkeys, leveling to 99 took months, ginseng cave being mined to death, and mythic being a god damn cluster-BLEEP) will do more harm to Kru than good. This isn't just from a business standpoint, it's also from a psychological stand point. You cannot re-create the community that existed back in the day. Most of that player base has grown up, had families, found new obsessions and have had their tastes in vices shift. That's the thing about nostalgia. You can't have the "good ol' times."

At the end of the day, even if you could (somehow) manage to re-create pre-4.0 Nexus, it wouldn't be the same. Also, in this day and age, only a fraction of the original players would sample it and they wouldn't even stick around. This game has nearly no appeal to newer gamers either. It's outdated, uses mechanics that feel like bigger chores than MMO grinding, and there are plenty of free alternatives that provide a superior experience.

DarkMaverick hit you with some knowledge and you bobble-headed your way back into this argument with the same, tired tune. I'm changing the channel before I care enough to invest time into truly eviscerating your self-contained attempt at building an echo chamber here.

QUOTE (tip @ Aug 12 2016, 03:16 PM) *
Well see the same crybabies are at it same old complaint about justice., and the people who are in charge of things.
I left the game because Sarina died in real life and I did not enjoy playing it anymore.
We both spent many hours trying to make the game a safe place for young kids to play and many of you know some were
very young like 8 to 10.

I can no longer see that well so won't be coming back approaching 78 so for all who hate hang on will move on soon

Your perception of what the game needed was to sanitize the game so that little kids (who, at the time, were rare on the internet to begin with) can enjoy the game. You not only failed, history has shown this to be the wrong direction to take. The Multiplayer culture has 10-year-olds cussing their heads off over VoIP without any repercussions. Your efforts were ultimately in vain. The original intent of Justice was to provide a more diplomatic and player-involved way of law and order within the game, not to become a method of oppression and begrudging others. It was never meant to be turned into chat filter or a public shamer. However, that's how it went. It also proved to the rest of us that you can't trust a game's own population to regulate itself. You either get complete chaos and anarchy or you get undesirable levels of influence and corruption from parties who have the wrong ideals.

Path to evil laid, brick by brick, with good intentions.

Plus, I'm sorry, but the ToC itself said "Must be 18 to play." I might have been guilty of breaking this rule myself (although my parents let me), but it still applies. Company had no liability. Sanitizing a community-oriented game is what killed most of nexus' population. Too many people felt oppressed and unable to express themselves. Now, nexus is lost in the sea of MMOs that do nothing to stand out as unique products from each other. If it wasn't because we weren't allowed a single mistake (we've all had moments of weakness, and the game permanently punishes you for them), a lot of people would be a lot more willing to have fun in this game. Now, it's either "follow this scripted event, line by line, or you're harassing," and "let's just grind, grind, grind, because the community sucks."

You succeeded in your sanitation, sir. You've ruined the culture.

Edit: By the way, I feel your loss, but don't you dare pull the "Sarina's dead" card to get people off your back. Either counter with some valid points, or just stay off the forums. Stop pissing gasoline in the fire you've set.

The Judges and Archons are either having a very difficult time with reality, or (the more likely case) they wrote this law to justify jailing people who want to point out their monopolization attempts and invented a weak argument about meta-gaming as the justification for it.

You think?

A 5-year-old could see this.

When one guy has five characters running a clan, 3 subpaths and an archon doesn't want people to cry about it, jail them.

It was the same stupid argument against why archons should remain anonymous (yes, 20 years ago I actually defended them on this, but obviously transparency is needed for all the reasons you stated).

Yep.

The only purpose of this law is to protect Guides, Elders, Tutors, Judges, Primogens, etc. from having their attempts to monopolize the game's politics exposed.

As I said before, the Justice system exists for the sole purpose of protecting the status quo of those who control the game's administration.

I concur.

They're also not above taking someone's idea and subsequently disposing of them using justice. Happened a lot back in my day, and I doubt it's gone away.

I swear, NexusTK has no need for the justice system if you'd just fix all these idiotic [Content removed]ing things about it that individually can be addressed in a couple freakin minutes. How hard is it to make a confirmation window? It's not. You know it and I know it.

Fix your damn game. Something this obviously critical to address should not still be happening for a decade. The only excuse is gross incompetence on behalf of the people you hire as GMs.

From someone who had a hand in the creation of the Justice System, I agree on all points (including your subsequent replies).

The system, from the word go, has become a tool of control and griefing. It wasn't originally supposed to be for every little stupid offense, nor meant to be tied so tightly to the marks system and used by subpaths as a barrier of entry.

Because you'd get your ass beat if you didn't give them that money. KRU isn't going to ultra-ban your account if you don't give them $30.

They impounded your car and you have to pay to get it out. It's not extortion. It's bail.

You want to legitimize a company having the option to ban at will and then ask money to unban, feel free. Just don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.

Who knows what's going on. Kru is a private company. Unless they tell us something or go bankrupt we can't gauge their financial health easily.

QUOTE (Candy @ Apr 13 2016, 08:06 AM) *
Dear Nexus community. Please let me introduce new programmers of Kru, Wiz and Kit. Wiz and Kit have strong extensive knowledge and background in MMO server and client programming. And yes, they are strong in mobile platform, too. wink.gif They already have been working hard under the hood for some time. Wiz was one of the original creators of Nexus and Baram. I am very excited about this reunion.

We also have two new GM's in training, and the community will see them at work soon. One of them will be assigned to the item shop management, which will gradually take a bigger role in Nexus.

We want to take this opportunity to convey our determination to revamp and revitalize Nexus, one of the longest run MMO games, if not the longest. The world of MMORPG has circled around in a big motion, and after almost two decades, many of us are wholeheartedly feeling and seeing the beauty and the potential of Nexus. And the new modern technologies and environment are enabling small companies like us to do things that were not possible just a few years ago. We are seeing this as a new big opportunity.

Thank you for all the suggestions that you have given us for the last few days. Many of the suggestions are incredibly well structured and valuable. We take them very seriously. Please do understand that, for these suggestions really work, there has to be a significant amount of groundwork performed beforehand. It's a tedious and consuming process, and all of us here at Kru are working, studying, and re-learning Nexus. We won't be able to deliver the final outcome overnight, but like many things in life, the work itself would be as rewarding as the outcome itself, and I am sure all of us will enjoy every step of that process in Nexus.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for staying with us all this time. We intend to see you for many more moons and suns to come.

Wony

PS. Yes, this is real Wony. It has never been sold, loaned, rented, exchange for monetary value, or hacked.

Funny how he slipped that last line in.

Although it's probably too late to encourage old timers like me to come back... I doubt the establishment would want me back anyway lol... there needs to be a display of results. Even a beta for mobile or a listing on app platforms. Guess I'll keep an eye out to see what actually gets done.

As for why Wony is suddenly paying attention? Finances, dude. If I owned Kru and had a game I knew had the potential to make way more, I'd be doing what I can to give it every opportunity to succeed.

In business, it's adapt or die.

huh. This is interesting. My immediate reaction is "is that really 'Wony' posting or a GM proxying his account?"

But, I digress.

Been out of the game so long I have no right nor motivation to add to this discussion. Much as I'd hate to admit to it, DarkMaverick has this covered.

However, from a business standpoint, Nexus does need a few things:

  • Free to Play with micros that have meaning to the player without unbalancing gameplay (i.e. real money for properties and vanity variants of in-game vendor items).
  • Somehow figure out how to get this game to work on mobile (oh I'm sure it's possible). Getting it on ios/Android app stores would greatly widen exposure.
  • Find a way to rebuild the entire system to allow dynamic group structure in the game. Being able to forge clans (and maybe even entire kingdoms) within the game that can then war with each other for territorial control or something like that. I could write a 20-page essay detailing what I'm thinking of in detail, but I'm sure people will get the gist of it.
  • Stop. Marketing. To. Children. Just. Stop. Quit it. Although this game is played by younger gamers, most of your playerbase is sustained by older gamers. It's time to acknowledge this. The story this game is based on is a drama. The era this game is based on is a volatile one. Stop trying to cater to young gamers who are more likely playing mobile games or console app-store indie games than Nexus.

I could say more, but, again, I'm not qualified to add to this discussion (and I don't feel like wasting all night typing a manifest). If Wony sees this he's more than free to ignore me.

QUOTE (Songa @ Mar 15 2016, 07:14 AM) *
The enemies made in this game were always a thousand times more honest because they wanted to let you know how much they don't like you. So called friends, on the other hand, were the worst out of anyone. They would oftentimes go behind your back to say nasty things all while smiling to your face. They pretended as if they liked you while they plotted against you. Enemies were easy, some even would come to agree with you. Friends pretended to like you because they pretended to like everyone--that's how they got ahead in the game.

It was really easy to tell when someone you thought was a friend was starting to talk [Content removed] about you. Suddenly your whispers are answered with one-word answers or not at all; they grew distant and claimed they were always too busy. What the [Content removed] were they doing, as you watched their avatar sit in the same spot for what seemed liked all day long? You guessed it, they got into the coveted secret circle! You're not invited, though, because you did that thing twelve years ago that was kinda-sorta-not-really-bad but everyone overplays it as this horrible-thing so oh, god! don't trust that person.

But you say, oh Songa! That's not true, not everyone could've gotten into the secret circle! There's only 10 archons! Oh, silly you. Ok so maybe they aren't in a secret circle but they are in a group of tired-of-the-rant groups, a subdivision of just-quit-already! They are enjoying their time working for a game they have to play, so hey, all of the ranters and ravers must be wrong right? They're just bitter!

Anyway the bottom line is that the game has always been toxic, you have just opened your eyes to realize it. Allowing players anonymity while holding power over other players is always a bad idea. I've played with the idea of returning, under a secret identity, but then I would have to do those boring leveling up nonsense and I'm just too lazy/don't care anymore. Lesson learned, I suppose.

Except what I said is true in all things in life not just a video game. True, a little bit of anonymity gives one a sense of empowerment so that they are a little more bold in doing what they did in Nexus, but that doesn't change the fact that they are still the kind of people that they are.

And everyone has ulterior motives. Just like you did with turning my statement into a political jab to serve your cynical views on nexus, and I'm posting it because I want some people to hear it.

But please, life is as toxic as Nexus is. Big deal. Get over it.

I found clarity on a lot of things ages ago. That's why I haven't touched nexus in over a decade.

That just kinda came to me randomly one morning reminiscing about stuff two decades ago. I posted this on facebook for my circle of friends and realized that I kinda want certain people to hear it too so I posted it here. Don't expect anything from them but hopefully to read this. No particular reason why. Meh.

Posted this in a more private setting, felt I should share this since a majority of it has to do with people I used to know In nexus.

Not looking for a fight, discussion or debate. Just putting this out there and people can choose to see it any way they want to, including the people I feel need to hear it the most.

I just had an epiphany about an old mmo I used to play 20 years ago: My enemies were the only honest people I knew, and every person I thought was my friend set me up.

On top of that, those who set me up did things for me that I thought I earned on merit, but all my enemies saw were "favors." My enemies fought perceived corruption that I became emblematic of, while my friends stabbed me in the back because I was too naive myself to realize that they expected reciprocation. Once they were ready, they would prep me up on a pedastol, then hand the mob their torches and allow the inquisition to set my stage on fire.

Being young, when it seemed that my world had exploded under my feet, I set fire to all the bridges around me. I thought it was an act of rage against the success of my enemies, but it actually was the entropy of my own ignorance.

I sought to do good things, alienated those around me who were honest and hard-working, befriended those who had ulterior motives, and then got sacrificed on the alter of vengeance. When I got cornered, I justified their hostilities by reacting explosively and unpredictably. When it was all over, I didn't learn my lesson and trusted the same scheming back - stabbing friends. I actually repeated this cycle several times, within the same social groups, for a good decade before finally washing my hands of the community.

The last person I felt close to, that was part of this community, I cut ties with only a few years ago. With this recent revelation, I learn that my younger self was also manipulative putty in the hands of that person who took advantage of my gullibility and blind devotion to satisfy their own thirst.

And you all wonder why I have trust issues.

It doesn't change anything now. I'm still somewhat a slave to the need for others to validate their existence. I'm just much more aware of it than I was two decades ago. Even I, as an old rival once said, "need a cause to fight for." Guess I justify my own existence this way as well.

After all, I make a great X.O., a great wingman, a great lieutenant, a great assistant, a great supporter. I've always failed as a leader. Perhaps, one day, I'll finally have a revelation that changes my ability to lead. Perhaps I'm always meant to be that right hand.

Anyway, just floating in thought and meditation here. One of the rare times you will witness contemplation instead of criticism or hostility. I'm just in that kind of mood this month.
